Drivers power window works but doesn't!!??? - ZR-1 Net Registry Forums

I'm working on my 1991 Zr1 and came across a strange issue. With the drivers side door closed the power window moves a hair but no further. If I open the door while holding the switch still nothing. Now if I left go of the switch and push it again the window goes up and down with no issues. Essentially with the door open window works fine, door closed it moves a centimeter and then nothing.

No obvious binding and motor has good speed with door open. Any ideas

Well i went back to examine it again and it appears to be binding at the very top. Once the door opens it unbinds and works as it supposed to. Any ideas? I'm taking off the door panel shortly. Thanks

Could be a window Alignment make sure the guides on the top of the door frame and good and not lose after you take the panel off you can see them.

Could be you have a broken window guide.
We had rash of that going around a while back.

Are you saying when the window is full up and the door is closed, window will not open? If so, window could be leaning too much against the weather stripping causing weather stripping to grab the window and not letting it roll down. Fix is, at the bottom horizontal area of the door, there are two 10 mm hex bolts (I think they are 10 mm) anchoring the bottom of vertical track of the window regulator. If you loosen these bolts, you can move the top of the window in or out relative to the roof of the car. Adjust the bottom of the regulator track so that the top of the window is moved away from the roof a bit.
Another possible cause is due to poor quality non-OEM weatherstrip on B and C pillar. If the weather strip is rubbery, chances are that these weatherstrip are poor quality non-OEM part resulting in grabbing the window and not allowing it to slide up or down.

secondchance - my car is a 1991 - I don't think they used guides yet - at least I don't see any in the door. I was able to adjust the anti-rattle pads at the top of the door frame - seems to have done the trick - looks like it was pushing the glass to hard causing it to bind - I've rolled it up and down a dozen times with the door closed and all seems good!
