Are the fouled plugs "oily" or "dry-soot"?

Default What causes sooty plugs ?

I'm looking for an answer to a repeated problem , only 2 out of 8 plugs are sooty . Is it injector issues , plug wires , coils , plug gap ? Can backfiring be an issue ? All of the above ?

Probably best to move this to the technical section to get more answers. In any case. There are many potential causes, if its only two plugs try moving things around, like move a spark plug and the wire from a known good cylinder to your suspect one. If the problem follows the plug and wire, theres your problem. You can do the same for the injectors but it takes a bit more work.
If your car is a 90, it may be leaking valve guides.
Has there been an increase in oil consumption? Any misses. Any recent Mods?

Its a 91 ,no new mods ,actually I think its stock , new ecm though . I replaced the plugs , same thing , i used a spark detector on every plug , no issue , now i did gap the plugs at 35 , maybe go to 50 ? I did a fuel leak down test for about an hour , no drop in fuel pressure.

How many miles? Do you know whether you have original injectors or they had been replaced? If replaced, which brand?

I have no idea what was done to the car , I am the third owner for 0016 . I would like to find the first owner and ask ! There is a sticker on the rear glass for ZR1 registry , so maybe they still visit the site !
