Default Transmission or clutch ?groan? sound?

Hello all,

My car is a 95 with 32K miles and I?ve always noticed what I can best describe as soft groan sound only in first gear when letting out the clutch. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Curious to know if it?s the clutch or the transmission? As far as I know it?s the original clutch and the trans has been serviced.

TIA.

I believe that is about the mileage where I replaced my clutch. Only thing actually bad was the throw out bearing.

If you go there, be sure you are aware the pilot bushing/bearing has to be PULLED, not driven out with grease like a normal small block.

Thanks for your feedback. Damn, I don?t look forward to replacing the clutch, but it has gone through some road track abuse and getting up there in age regardless. I don?t know history about the first two owners of car too. Fortunately I do have a clutch setup on the shelf.

Thanks. Yeah, I remember when I rebuilt my more and changed the clutch in my 90Z. I have two different bushing/bearings in stock so maybe it?s time to consider doing it while I install the 4.11 gears. That weird groan is something I read about the ZF with certain oil, but more research to do.

77 k miles. Original clutch. I had those noises a while back but went away. Don?t fix what is not yet really broke. Moana and groans are every time I try to get out of my Z!

Thanks. 100% agreed. I?m not changing the clutch because of a groan. I can live with it, just want to know what is it and if I can mitigate it. It?s just weird. Hell, I moan and groan every morning when I get out of bed. 😆

It was a squealing groan with clutch suppressed when cold. Figured it was throw out bearing or flywheel/ main shaft bushing. Most likely the latter. Hasn?t done it for 5 years. Returned from MR/10/Gather last night. 2 more thousand miles for a total of 77,750. Heading to 100k.
