ZF6 Reverse Lockout Question - ZR-1 Net Registry Forums

Hey guys,
I took the 89 out for a drive this weekend and once I parked at the local cruise night I realized the reverse lockout didn’t work. It appears the collar has come free of the rod, has anyone had experience with this? Also before I tear into this has anyone done this repair that can give me some direction before I start? I want to keep the lockout, I like it and am not a real fan of the later crash through.

Daniel,
It's been a while, after I had that issue I pulled that thing out and put in a Hurst. I believe there is an allen set screw that has come loose in the shifter that engages the lockout rod. You will have to remove the shifter knob to access it. Maybe someone can chime in on this one.

The lift ring breaks like this generally. Sometimes the set-screw that secures it to the rod just loosens and you can access it with just an allen wrench. I don't know the size. This image I believe is from a user here on this forum but I recalled seeing it last year on the other forum.

The lift ring is still available from GM - Part# 10079757 with a retail of $27.

I agree with everything stated to this point, with the following exception:

You don't have to pull the shift knob. The allen screw is threaded through the reverse lockout collar that you lift up on to engage reverse. It bears on the reverse lockout rod. If you look carefully at the collar(I believe at the rear), you will see it. It's very small and metric, if I remember correctly. Try to tighten it and see if it's just loose. If the threads in the plastic collar are stripped, then you will have to pull the shift knob and replace the collar. I hope that my memory is serving me correctly on this.

Two things.
1) How do you get into reverse when this breaks?
2) I think Bob (cvette98pacecar?) was making some of these from billet aluminum.
