Cost of doing a 4.125" AES Liner Engine - ZR-1 Net Registry Forums

Just to let you guys know, I was bored a few weeks ago & called AES. The cost to do a 4.125" sleeve shortblock using a stock crank offset ground to 3.75", AES supplying Pistons, Compstar Rods, new rod bearings assembled is $10500. This will give a displacement of 401. AES will plate the original supplied main bearings. Just thought I'd share in case anybody was wondering how much a complete shortblock would cost.

I guess I should have also added that if the better built 350's are getting 450 RWHP, which is 1.28 rwhp per cube, then 401 cubes x 1.28 rwhp = 515 rwhp & a very healthy boost in torque!

To go with the bottom end, the top end porting, including heads and maybe valves will push it another $5-6k, unless it is a DIY project. A full blown 415, 427, 441 stroker passes $20k like it was up on jacks, especially if it is all farmed out. And, add the drive-line hardening like dual clutch and 31 spline axle spindles (which you'll need sooner or later) and maybe half shaft upgrades...and my "500 package" 350 suddenly doesn't look so bad

But...you only live once!

I think I would consider the AES closed block once you go 427 or beyond. There are plenty of displacement configurations below that with great power. A stock block LT-5 puts you into the 11s with DRs and a good driver.

I would think if I was considering a 415, 4.125" bore & 3.875" stroke, I would probably go this way.....big bore, short stroke, unshrouds the valves. Theoretically, it would be better than the 4.125" stroke.

Really makes it easier to a forced induction setup. You can get get fully forged 418 GEN 3/4 longblocks for under $4000 INCLUDING a brand new forged crank.

I does take dedication to pay for an extra displacement LT5.

So far as shrouding of the valves, is that really a concern on the LT5?

This is cheap.

Heck just a few years back a 415ci was $34k did not include cams or valves and if you wanted droped/siamised plenum well then your were close to $50k.

So a turn key 401ci for around $15k is a bargain.

Looks like a steal now.
