Default My rising shifter

So, when you hammer the throttle, the shifter rises, a lot. I thought maybe I just didn't remember this happening.

While in Carlisle, I lent Mark from Mirrock my car and he questioned it, so I figured there really was a problem.
I thought it might be motor mounts. It sounds like they are a pain to do, and hard to come by.

I was ready to go to a maintenance day in wazoo land for some help with this.

I mentioned it to Marc H in Carlisle. He said the C beam was loose.
Guess what? The C beam was loose.
Dropped the exhaust and tightened the bolts per Marc's instructions.
It's raining, so I haven't driven it yet. - Steve

Always good to have Marc around for a little advice. Have you installed Bill B's C beam plates? I understand that helps. Fortunately I never ran into this problem on my old Z's, but maybe that's because Marc was maintaining them and I just never knew of a problem. Glad you got yours figured out. --Bob

I do have the beam plates. Don't know if that helps or not. Marc did have me over torque them a little. I think torque spec is 37 pounds. They are pretty big bolts, that doesn't seem like much.

I haven't driven it yet, but....
Maintenance day would be fun. Someday.
And thank you to Marc. I hate to ask him work questions on a social day.

Steve,

A ?tell? on motor mounts is having the D/S exhaust tips sitting lower than the P/S. Had that problem and always needing to adjust and tighten hangers. One of the times we pulled the motor, I asked Pete to checks motor mounts. P/S was busted. Replaced it, and now exhaust is straight.
I had rising shifter once and it was the CBeam plates. However, the motor mount could have been a contributing factor to that. If the shifter starts rising again, I would check mounts.

I haven't see a Z yet where at least one (if not both) of the engine mounts haven't been broken. If the engine has never been out or at least closely inspected, my money is on a broken engine mount. It's amazing how much higher they sit with new mounts.

So, maybe I haven't fixed the problem yet. I'll find out next time I drive it.
Any good sources for motor mounts?

You know if you?re going to change the motor mounts while you are there you just might as well go all the way and make a 410 out of it. Don?t you think?
