Default Stainless brake hose for ZR-1

Hello again everyone,

its been long time i didn't ask for help

i have an issue with stainless brake hose

i've decided to change my brake hose on my Z with some braided stainless one
because i've found that the pedal feel was too soft and i've changed also the pads with hawks

i've bought the one from ecklers (http://www.ecklerscorvette.com/corve...1988-1993.html) but unfortunately the front one cannot be mounted because the fixation part seem too thin for the front brakes
it seems that it was ok for the rear one
moreover the pedal feel is still the same even with new pads

does anyone know where i can found some stailess brake hose that can be mounted on the front brakes ?

and how i can improve the pedal feel
strangely it feels ok when i press one time the brake and that i press again but it's really not pratictal

Thanks for your help

Fact that second time you press it feels ok suggests you might have an air bubble trapped in the system - just my suspicion.

As for the brake line, I don't know which vendor to recommend. I suggest, once you replace brake lines, to flush the system with new brake fluid.

OP - you mentioned "fixation part". Do you mean where the brake hose meets the hard-lines at the frame rail? That is what I always thought would be the difference in the '94+ and the '88 - '92 but I never had a reason to compare. The fronts are indexed to the frame rail bracket to avoid assembly line conflicts. A match of the indexing allows the clip to secure the hose to the bracket, unless indexed properly the clip should not fit. How do the fronts compare in length to those that you bought? Actually a '93 OE is cataloged as different for the '93 and it's mention L & R are the same.

I never understood the brake hoses and I always suggested "caution" when the subject came up. I actually never understood it not being questioned more frequently.

What year is your car?

David,

OP's profile indicates 90Z.
Checking Davies Corvette parts catalog, 88-92, 93, 94-96 front hoses have different part number. I think they are the same at caliper. Difference must be at flex hose to hard line termination.

Got mine from Summit racing. Went with Russel brand. They fit perfectly.

Another option: Take your old hoses to a hose fabricator.
They can duplicate the length, and either use your old
connectors or match new ones.

OP - it was mentioned your car is a '90 so if you've removed the hoses you could look into the bracket on the frame and see the indexing. If your issue is at this point and the lengths are appropriate you could dremel the index to fit what Eckler's sent which is likely just "round". Never had their product in hand.

If the hoses are in hand you can look at the end and see the indexing. I believe I may have a set of OE and maybe a set of after-market. I may try to snpshot and compare. May not be soon - other issues.

it's this part that cannot be mounted on the front brake
its too thin to be tighten correctly

i didn't precise but yes it's a '90 ZR-1

@secondchance : i've already replaced the liquid and purged the system but it's still the same

But they gave you new banjo bolts and sealing washers. You can't attach with the hardware they supplied? That seems very odd. How thick is the fitting? "millimeters", what is the under head length of the banjo bolts? I doubt you could reuse yoru old but it wouldn't make sense they sent incorrect hardware with their own package.
