Default WAZOO Drag Racing - 18 June 2016

Drag Racing --- Drag Racing --- Drag Racing

On Saturday, 18 June 2016, the Northern Virginia Mustang Club will be renting the Mason-Dixon Dragway for a private morning of drag racing. As in the past, WAZOO has been invited to participate. This has been a fun event for quite a few ZR-1 owners.

Date: June 18th, 2016

Time: 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM

Location: Mason-Dixon Dragway, Boonsboro, MD, just east of Hagerstown, MD

Price: $60 if paid in advance to the NVMC or $75 at the track.

In previous years, WAZOO has gone to the Texas Road House in Hagerstown for lunch after the racing.

This is NOT competition racing. It is for fun and enjoyment. If you have never raced before, this is a good event because there is no pressure and plenty of time to learn the track procedures. There will be plenty of friendly ZR-1 guys on hand to get novice racers comfortable with the track and your ZR-1.

I hope to see you there.

Jim

Won't be able to make this one. But I was doing a little racing today on the Aurobahn. I got her up to 170mph and still had alot of pull.

Sounds like a great opportunity for you closer guys to get out there and make a few passes.
No pressure, lots of guys there that know your cars. It's a lot of fun, but a lot of people are intimidated by the track process, or they feel that its bad for the car. IMO the prepared surface of a drag strip is preferred to a possibly uneven, dirty surface of a street.
If you are on normal street tires, for your 1st pass, stay out of the water, skip the burnout, drive around the water.
Don't worry about reaction times, don't worry about the car in the other lane, just let the lights count down, give her some revs and let out the clutch. The timers do NOT start until your front tire moves out of the way and allows the beam to pass across the lane. You can sit there for 5 minutes after the light turns green and still run an ET of 12 seconds flat. Though I don't suggest you do that, the guys lined up behind you may not appreciate that.

If you've ever had the smallest desire to maybe try making a pass down the quarter mile, I cant think of a better time to pop your cherry.

I remember my 1st 1/4 mile pass, and of course like the newbie that I was, I rolled through the staging beams and attempted to stage with my rear tires, instead of the front tires. I wondered why the Christmas tree seemed so close to me. The announcer gave me a deserved razzing and I proceeded to stage properly. Once the light turned green, it was official, I was hooked on drag racing.
In the wise words of Vin Diesels character Dominic Torreto of "The Fast and the Furious", ever since my very first drag strip launch, now "I live my life a quarter mile at a time".

Enjoy the morning gents/ladies. I wish I was closer.

My money is paid and I'm ready to rumble! This will be the maiden run for the new stroker, crossing fingers. My goal this trip is to improve my 60ft times...mine have sucked in the past. Wish I could have got my line lock kit installed over the winter...Oh well.

Have fun guys!! I wish that I could come out to play, but I've got a Father/Son trip to NY planned over that weekend for my son's birthday and Fathers Day.

I would really like to bring the Turquoise car out to see what she will do before shipping her to her new owner... but I'd feel guilty about driving it hard while waiting to ship it to the new owner.

Nelson - that car looks incredible! Looks like you are enjoying your trip!

Cheers,
Scott

Due to not enough cars signed up, this event has been cancelled.
