Crooked exhaust tips?
While I browse for my first ZR-1 for sometime in the near future, Im noticing some have crooked exhaust tips, where the outer tips sag a bit. Is this a common issue? Is it easily corrected? Or is it a PITA/costly to fix?

Re: Crooked exhaust tips?
For me it is more of an illusion than anything as the rear valence panel "scoops up" at the ends.
I do admit that it annoys me too.

Re: Crooked exhaust tips?
I had a discussion (arguement?) with Borla about this.
They had a booth at a car function and I spoke with their sales rep. When I questioned my inability to level the tips, his response was that it was due to each C4's "variability" and there was nothing they could do about it. When my car was up on a rack I mentioned it to someone who said, "I can fix that!" He got a torch to heat up one of the tips and try to turn it. All he succeeded in doing was to melt my plastic inside wheel well liner! Another adventure with a ZR-1. Ted

Re: Crooked exhaust tips?
I feel your pain! Simple fix tho. Tac weld All of the joints along the entire length of the tubes. The issue is that unless you do, heat cycles combined with (potholes etc) will result in the pipes succumbing to the torque introduced by the lateral weight of the mufflers. Clamps just don't hold long before they slip...and they will slip!
So, once the tips LOOK* right, tac 'em in place "as is"! *This from an article re aligning iron sights on guns, but applies there to, methinks: "The human eye is very good at detecting angular (and especialy light) variances". If the edge of the valence or the optical appearance of the valence compared to the angle (or the appearance) of the twin tips is misaligned, then regardless of what an actual level (used to level the tips) may indicate, arrange the angle of the tips so they LOOK right and WELD all of the joints (ideally) or at least TAC WELD the joints. Otherwise, it's only a matter of time before the tips will sag (twist) down toward the outboard side of the valence.

Re: Crooked exhaust tips?
Not a bother at all......................
Went with a large single tip. But even if there were two, you can't hardly tell................... The concave nature of the factory installed CORVETTE letters is a far "sorer" thumb than the way down there tips on my ZR-1. Thank goodness the build quality has improved dramatically over the last 25 years! But, who cares, LOVE is blind! (almost) Marty |

Re: Crooked exhaust tips?
My black 91 had an early B&B 3" system. I was always adjusting and repositioning the tips. The clamps while tight would allow for the pipe and muffler to move. It was a bit of a pain in the butt. I put a 3" B&B on my 96 LT1 coupe and had the same issues with it. My current car has the 2.5 " Corsa and those tips are rock solid. I have never had to mess with them.

Re: Crooked exhaust tips?
If u have done mods to the motor, the left side torques over and twists the tips. Exhaust needs to be tack welded. Clamps just can?t hold it.
You may even need to beef up the hanger stud on the body of the muffler. The flexing may eventually rip the skin of the muffler.
