Default Hood Color?

I have a red 92 ZR1 and was going to try to raise the back of the hood up because the wiper hits when turned on. I noticed that the paint underneath the hood latch is white while the rest of the hood is red with black underside. Is that normal or does that mean my hood used to be white? Also I am having a hard time getting the 1 1/2 nut under the spring latch loose. Is it right hand thread?

Loosen the "dog point" - the nut serves as a jamb nut locking the latch bolt where intentioned. Everything you mention is RH thread.

Just had to do one on a car yesterday, We removed the complete assembly and put it in a vice holding on to the welded on nut on the backside, made quick work of it and no issues with marring the plate or hood. The hood was white bare fiberglass under the plate, my guess is they are painted black after the assembly was installed.

Thanks a lot, that helps me out. I didn't want to scratch it up.
