Default 1990 ZR1 Battery

I recently purchased a 90 ZR1 with 1,826 original miles. It has been through two NCRS judging events, chapter and regional. When judged, it had a service replacement battery which resulted in a 12 point deduction.
The deduction is not so important to me but, making the car as 'correct' as possible is. With that in mind, I had an original battery case restored and dated. Lastly, I found an original decal.
The cost of restoration was just under $800, including shipping both ways.
I know it's not for everyone but wanted to share, in the event any others are considering the same.
Regards,
Mark

Super, I think I have a label, where did you find a battery to have restored? PM me. I also have a question you can probably answer..I assume you have the OE sunvisors in your car. Could you post or send me pictures of both sides of both sunvisors ? I need to see the overall shape, the mirror cover, the mirror switch and what labels each has or don't have. (such as airbag yellow label and the small black and white see other side label). Thanks! Great looking battery BTW!

I'll wager $1 that the C4 crew takes the "Standard Deduction" anyway. You'll have to correct them.

The battery standard deduction is 10 points for all divisions. That 12-points must have been because the carrying handle was still on the battery. SOP in C4 flight judging.

Could be, Dave. In their defense, they probably don't see many origie batts. I will say, I have a 79 L82 4-spd with 2,820 original miles with its original battery case. There was no deduction during Flight judging. Can't remember if any comments were made during Bowtie and/or Benchmark.

From a ZR1.net member. It was advertised for quite some time before I bought it.
Send me an email and I'll get you the pics you want.

Early in my points-chase (mostly as a C4 guy) I was teamed with a high-point judge. We got to the battery and he said "Service Replacement. Standard Deduction." I responded "You better take another look. You'll make the owner cry if you call his born-with battery a Service Replacement." I'd already looked at the battery, and it had caught my eye because it didn't appear to be a typical Service Replacement, so I looked closer, and deduced that it was the born-with. I later chatted with the owner. He had done what you did, install a smaller battery inside the case.

As well you know, the experience of a judge and his powers of observation regarding what he's looking at mean more than having "seen one before".

I have another, April built, 1990 ZR1 with the original battery case. It's a 44 original mile example...

I don't want to hijack the thread, but I recently acquired a similar 1990 Z... (polo green with saddle interior). question: the passenger arm rest is saddle, but the driver arm rest is black... is that normal?

That's typical (normal) factory production...
