Default A few observations....

First a huge shout out to Jerry @ Jerrys Gaskets for getting my Z back on the road!! He found I had a bad oil cooler line and replaced it for free. She is running like she should again. Just can't say enough about the support and knowledge of this community, thank you.....

Onto my observations, I had no idea our cars had heated mirrors! I'm thankful that they do, and that they work amazingly well! As does the defrosters in these cars. I can't imagine too many cars had heated mirrors back in 1991. I've been driving my Beast all week to work. The past 2 mornings have been 41 degrees out , according to my outside temp reading in the car. I've noticed the crank time has increased to about 3-4 seconds, which on a summer morning it would be almost instant.

The change of the personality on the car is crazy. I get that it's not a humid, heat soaked morning. That the air is crisper and cooler, but wow! The snap of the acceleration from a dig, and from about a 35 to 85ish romp shocked me this morning. I'm stock except for Marc Hs' chip, and I hit it in 2nd gear and shifted and was dong some crazy speeds quickly.....So general question, what are the ideal temps to get the max performance out of our LT5s?? That is just one reason I love these cars... after 4 years of ownership, it still surprises me and puts that huge grin on my face.

Oh and has anyone else noticed, that the stock 90-92 ZR-1 exhaust tips, look exactly like those on the new C8? Both have square tips, both have tips that are offset from each other. I could be crazy, but every time I see the new C8 and those tips, I think where have I see those before lol...

The LT5 loves the crisp air, but the downside is those “Summer ONLY” tires don’t work around corners, accelerate or stop as the temps drop. You are also dealing with a cold pavement.

So just don’t push the car in really chilly weather unless you have plenty of space to escape!

Yes good words of wisdom. Many a biker and sports car enthusiast have gone off after stopping for a while then blasting off again forgetting their tires have cooled. Happens often in the mountains. But yes the LT5 wakes up when temps are in the fifties or lower.

Yes, be very careful using these cars in colder weather. My cruise a few days ago in 39 degree weather resulted in the destruction of my previously scratch-free car and putting me in the hospital. Transferring to rehab today to learn how to walk again. Enjoy but be careful!

Cold weather, and summer only tires don’t mix. Stopping, acceleration and cornering is SEVERELY REDUCED. Top Toy’s accident is a reminder to all of us as Winter approaches.

Get well Top Toy.
