Exclamation Las Vegas ZR1'er needs "Dreaded No Start" help!

Guys,

I've been contacted by a guy in LV whos having the "Dreaded No Start" issue on his '90.
He's already had the starter replaced and has the clutch safety switch bypassed and is still having probs.
He wants to do my now infamous "Dreaded No Start Relay Bypass Fix the F'er for Good", but he's got a rather interesting problem.
He's color blind.
This kinda complicates things a little.
Anybody got an afternoon to spend with a Fellow ZR1er?
I can walk you through the process over the phone, the mod should only take an hour or so.

I don't know if he's a member over here, he found me from my old postings (pre-PermaBanned) on that other site "Who's Name We Won't Mention".
I've told him to sign up over here to get the ball rolling.

Thanks,

TomC

Hmmm.

Was just thinking that a plane ticket to LV for a weekend visit would probably cost this guy a lot less than taking the car to a Stealership...
hmmm...
What do I tell the wifey....
hmmm......

What's the secret?

If I can get to it, I'd be glad to help.

Pull drivers side hush panel. Find Purple wire that goes to clutch
switch. Look at switch and note the color of wire coming back
up.(Yellow??) Will be able to jumper them right there. I used a 3 in
wire with terminals on the end and unplugged the wires going to switch
and plugged in the jumper wire. Use a 12 ga wire at least as it does
carry a heavy current load which is why the switch fails, it gets hot
and the resistance across the points stops current flow

This guy's already had the clutch switch bypass done.

It's a pretty simple job, just open the big loom in front of the ECM, cut the purple wire, figure out which end goes to the starter, then run a hot and a ground from the battery. Connect them all together with a 5 pole 30-40a relay, using the 12v from the ignition key to open a circuit directly from the battery to the starter. Then tuck all the wires into the loom and hide the relay under the ECM.

So are you using the purple wire from the clutch switch to energize the coil on the relay then? Or do i need to find an ignition switch wire? Wait, even that wouldn't work, as the control circuit needs to be on the start side of the switch.

I'm the guy being talked about, thanks for any help that can be provided, maybe we could get together this weekend, I have family in town through Friday morning, but after that I am available. I could drive it over to your place, or if you prefer you can come over here. I will send an email sometime today.

Thanks again,

Chris

When this happened to me a couple of years ago Tom sent me the diagram to install this relay. I haven't had a problem since the installation. Took me about 1/2 hour.
