Default Swapping in a quicker ratio rack: who has done it?

Hey guys, I was curious who has done a quick steer conversion on these cars and how they like it. I have a fresh rack with 0 miles on it from Turn One that was rebuilt for an 85. While it was with Junior years ago, he called me to give an update on the rebuild. It was a standard rack and I asked if he had some quick ratio parts around. I lucked out as he had some parts and he installed them.

Never got to use the rack, I got rid of the 85. I had the factory rack in the ZR-1 rebuilt by Turn One as well a while back thinking it would fix my high speed slop issue. Unfortunately, it feels like I never pulled the rack for a rebuild. Everything feels numb at speed. I rebuilt the PS pump a while back thinking that might also help, but no change. I may be spoiled by the quicker steering of my daily driver with FWD.

The quick ratio rack is about 2 full turns, lock to lock. I know I will need longer tie rods, but if anyone has a recommendation on a brand to use with an 85 rack, I?ll take it.

I wanted to bump this just to see if any new or fresh eyes might be able to provide input on a particular brand of longer tie rod ends or first hand experience with a quicker rack from an early model year in their Z. I finally got the quick ratio rack on the workbench with a pair of grips to turn, and it is almost two full turns, lock to lock. I feel like this will give me the tighter steering I am looking for.

The stock rack, even with the fresh rebuild from Turn One, still feels mushy on the steering inputs.

I had an 84 Xfire w Z51. So it had the quicker ratio steering that I thought was replaced in 85 due to the complaints of the car tramming and being too darty.
How it would be in a ZR is something I would be interested in hearing about. The Gatorbacks on the 84 were terrible.

I also had a 84 Z51. I couldn?t sneeze from fear of unintended lane change.

Yeah that was the complaint altho I found that a change of tire made things a bit better. I also upgraded to a set of AFS GS type 17? wheels which I liked quite a bit.
