Default Doug Rippie/ Haibeck Chip

I recently bought a 2 owner 91 .
The only thing that seemed not stock/original for the first 100 miles I drove it was the 1-4 skip shift (CAGS) was disabled.
I thought they must have used the bypass plug.
I knew when I bought it that it ran rough and had fuel/ignition gremlins.
I installed a set of 16 all new FIC injectors, new coils, plugs and wires.
Car runs strong and very smooth now.
I bought a Chip from Marc Haibeck, went to install it today and when I pulled the cover off of ECM, to my surprise I noticed it had a Doug Rippie chip installed.
Reading Marc’s directions it ends up being a hybrid, where The DR plugs into the Haibeck and the Haibeck plugs into the ECM.
The DR did allow fans to run continuously, once I installed Haibeck they cycle on and off once it reaches temp.
The Haibeck does default to full power which I like.
1)My thought is that fan life would be longer with continued running after reaching temp instead of the constant cycling on and off endlessly ? Virtually any electric motor is going to be happier running constant.
2) Has anyone had this same situation or have extensive knowledge of both e DR CHIP and the Haibeck Chip ?
3) I have no idea if the DR added any torque or HP?
I installed the Haibeck Chip and because of rain coming in I was only able to run it in my shop for 10-15 minutes.
Upon startup the rpm’s Jump up high 1500-1800 for a couple seconds then The idle would settle down and be lower and smoother than the DR.
Any input here would help me tremendously

The DR chip is likely old. Back in the day the tuners were very conservative on the modifications they made. I’ve run across some real oddball chips. Your new Haibeck chip represents everything that has been learned from the early 90’s till now. Marc takes the maximum changes for performance without sacrificing reliability. Go with the Haibeck chip. I’ll bet you will notice the difference.

The early mods to the LT-5 calibrations were very basic. They really didn’t do much regarding driveability as an example. Just some extra timing and tweaking the WOT fueling. Marc plays w more than that. All ur DRM chip is doing now is provide the knock circuitry, with the Haibeck chip overriding whatever calibration is on the DRM chip.

My 67 Vette was a frame off restoration shortly before I bought it. When I was a boy my Dad owned a Big Block Goodwood Green convertible, I knew I wanted to get one someday.
Fun car, big block torque is addicting and factory side pipe sound is wonderful. Very nimble for a car that is more than 50 years old. And the factory AC blows cold !



The 69 Z28 has the original high revving DZ302. The solid lifter clack is like music. That little 302 is like a ball of fury, down low there is nothing, its flat.
But at about 3000 rpm it starts to come to life, it pulls and pulls strong right up to redline. You can tell how far handling technology has come when driving this one. Straight line is awesome, even gentle curves, but this is not the car for back road twisties.


The 71 Vette Coupe has that similar engine feel to my 67, but you can notice that is has slightly less HP due to lower compression ratio in 1971.
both engines were built to factory specs when restored.
The big block torque right off idle is awesome on this car too. Although its old technology its easy to see why the 63-82 chassis/suspension lasted so long, for an old car it really handles pretty good, as long as I'm at speeds that are reasonable its a very fun car to drive. And the factory AC blows cold !



My 1980 Z28..... I bought the car 8 or 10 years ago, as it was similar to one I owned as a kid in the early 80's.
It was in beautiful condition and had only received a modern base/clear repaint and factory decals reapplied. The rest of the car was like going back to 1980. Great to look at but boring to drive. 195HP 350 with TH350 transmission. It was anything but exciting. So 3 years ago while at Corvettes at Carlisle I ordered up a 450HP 383 Stroker engine and Tremec 5 speed,clutch, driveshaft complete changeover kit from Gene at Silver Sport Transmission. And had my winter project lined up to do myself.....
One of the best decisions I ever made..... I now drive that car more than any others. The miles will really never affect the value, the car will never be rare, but wow is it fun. That 383 engine to me has the high revving fun of a small block, yet the displacement is large enough where it has gobs of torque like a big block.



My 1991 ZR-1 is the newest addition to the family. So far it is exactly what I had hoped for. Since the first time I saw that LT5 with clamshell hood open over 30 years ago, I knew someday,,, someday. I'm the ZR-1 rookie here, I've got a lot to learn.
I quickly found out my normal parts channels, like Zip-Corvette, Ecklers, Mid America etc. did not have the extensive parts and accessories like they do for "regular" Vettes. Thank god for this registry, I quickly hooked up with the ZR-1 go to guys for everything I've already used to work on the car.


The 97 Viper was purchased by me over 20 years ago. It was all stock 450HP V10. Fun car, handled and stopped very well.
Back in 2005-2006 when the newest generation Viper was introduced it had 600+HP. Considered selling and upgrading but did not like the look of newer ones as much.
Plan B... Give up my car for virtually a whole driving season and have it modified, to be wild, yet I insisted on reliable too.
It is still naturally aspirated, and I spent much more than I should have to get the 700hp.
OMG that car is a beast. When it was 450HP I'd let my wife drive a little while I rode shotgun, that ended after the engine and other mods were completed... This car can get out of sorts so fast, but If you apply some common sense and very easy with the right foot you can be civilized.
The car had many handling and big brake upgrades, as well as a gearing swap to 3.73 as well. The Corsa exhaust is virtually straight through so I have to pick and choose when to drive it. After all the mods, I feel like a fighter jet pilot climbing into the drivers seat.



The 2006 F430 is so much fun to drive. The mega revving engine and flat plane crank are absolute magic. It will rev from 2000 to almost 9k so fast its unbelievable. The sound of the engine is worth it alone. Shifting through all the gears with the solid clack of the gated shifter is like nothing else.

It is primarily a Point A to Point A car, I don't ever mind the attention if I take it to car shows, as I truly like car people.
But I'm a very private person and to go to a restaurant, or even gas stations i get uncomfortable with the situations it puts me in with certain people.

My 2015 Z/28.... I bought that a few years ago with the intention then of buying a C4 ZR-1. I was on the lookout throughout the whole country for a
Z when I came across this car in Arkansas, it had less than one thousand miles.
I knew they only made the Z/28 for 2014 and 2015, and a total 2 year build of approx. 1200-1500. Although the ZL1 had more HP 570 to 505 The ZL1's were built by the thousands, coupe, convertible, automatic, 6 speed etc. the ZL1's are supercharged, and I am an old school naturally aspirated, unless its a diesel guy.

The Z/28 was a track demon, 6 speed only, carbon ceramic brakes like my F430 has, which are unbelievable and it was built with a very single focus of track supremacy. the only option for Z/28 was if you wanted radio and AC, which mine has.

Light weight wherever possible, and that LS7 engine is awesome. I'm old school and will opt for naturally aspirated unless of course if its a diesel.
So I pulled the trigger on that and knew I had to put the C4 Z on hold,,,,
Until a few weeks ago when I finally got mine
