Exclamation 1/2 mile SHOOTOUT POLL: Which day?

This event looks like it is going to be something the ZR-1 gang might want to participate in. However, if we are to show up 'en mass', maybe we should pick either June 1st or June 2nd when the majority could participate.

That does not mean one could not race both days, or just attend to support the group on one or both days. Just trying to get an idea as to a day when all or most can participate so we can have the most representation as possible.

Note: Apparently, their web site info is still being populated, e.g., DRIVER REGISTRATION IS CLOSED (NOT OPEN YET would be a better choice of words) you'll need to read the rules and the inspection requirements, and have the inspection paperwork filled out prior to showing up at the inspection. See the web site for futher details (Link).

Disclaimer: This is a privately conducted event by parties apart from the Registry. This event is NOT sponsored by the Registry. This notice serves only to inform club and forum members of the event, but The ZR1 NetRegistry assumes no liability nor maintains any connection with this event in any way.

This could be a major event for the region. I hope as many as possible can make it!

Paul,

Let's just settle on the 2nd. Al can make it then. I think the rest of us are more flexible although some may be going both days.

That maybe a good fit for us local guys - either day (or both) work for me as the track is very near me anyway. But, thinking beyond the IL boarders a bit, some may travel some distance and might need to travel on Sunday. For example: I sometimes attend a rifle match in eastern KY that is held on Saturdays for that specific reason: I and many other out of state ppl take Friday off work to drive to the match, shoot the match on Saturday, and drive home Sunday.

We've got time to make a decision - not ready to close out the poll just yet!

Given where the race is, Sunday should be good for people like Brett and Scott or the guys from Champaign. Yeah let's see who else chimes in. But I'll go whenever we have the biggest contingent. Haven't heard from the big dogs like Kevin and BobG yet.

Any ideas on what a stock ZR-1 would run in the half mile?

Anyone have a calculator for 1/2 mile trap based on 1/4 mile?

Hello to all of my fellow ZR-1 devotees. A friend of mine told me about the half mile drags so I made a visit to the forum and will offer my input on the above question.

I hope I don't break anyone's bubble but a stock ZR-1 is unlikely to exceed 133 MPH in a half mile at 2800 feet. In stock form a ZR-1 will run right at 150 MPH in a mile (2800 ft). Since 2001 we have had only two stock ZR-1's enter the half mile shoot out at the Sandhills Open Road Challenge. The best speed posted was 131 MPH. It looks like the elevation at Monee is only 790 feet. A stock ZR-1 may very well run as fast as 137 there. In 2009 we (SORC) held arm drop grudge half mile drags at the Thedford, Nebraska airport. It was a ball and I highly recommend them. Much better than 1/4 mile. You will smile for days. Good luck to all the ZR-1 pilots.

Joe,

That's great information. I have been looking for some kind of calculator that would estimate 1/2 mile trap based on known 1/4 mile. We have a good number of ZRs here in FBI-land that have ~ 100whp and more than the stock ZR and are trapping 130+ in the 1/4. Know any way we can estimate what to expect in the 1/2?

My Haibeck modified 91 had 4.10's (a must in my book) and made 402 WHP. The car would run 138-139 in the half mile at our elevation and 164 in the mile. My 415 car is at the 150 mark at the half and 182-185 in the mile. A gear change to 4.10's will increase one mile speeds on a stock ZR-1 by up to 5 MPH.
