Belt Tensioner Pulley

Old tensioner pulley rattles, tells me that the bearing is on its way out. Bought the L98 Dayco unit to rebuild my LT5 unit.

I noticed that the pulleys (old and new) are really tight fit to the Dayco post, but have a tiny bit of play on the LT5. Otherwise, things seem to be the same. Any thoughts on how I can fill the gap?

Whatever works, i guess. I believe Jerry's Gaskets carries the right pullies. If not, I am using one for an LT1 motor on the Z. Been good for 6 years now.

I'm thinking about tensioners as well. My car got a little hot yesterday and I also noticed it wasn't charging very well. Poking around a little I noticed the belt seemed to have more slack in it than I feel like it should. The belt appears to be in good condition. Kinda thinking maybe the tensioner spring is not doing its job very well.

Rebuilt my Tensioner per issue 34 of HOB. Took care of the rattle noise, but I'm experiencing the same issue as Locobob.

Possible that a new (shorter) belt could stiffen things up.

I discovered that I can actually move the tensioner quite a bit just by putting finger pressure on the belt up by the power steering pump, I don't think it should be that easy to move.

To move the Tensioner which I just tested 4 of them......on average starts at about 17 lbs and goes to almost 30 lbs fully compressed. I had one start at 25 lbs and goes to 40 lbs. This force pulling from center of Tensioner pulley perpendicular to tensioner arm.

The Force measured would be the actual force on the Belt Tensioner Pulley perpendicular to belt between Alternator Pulley and Harmonic Balancer.

You have very strong finger

I have no idea where you were pressing but am assuming you are pressing perpendicular to belt between two of the pulleys. I would say that is a very weak Belt Tensioner. I will go out now and press on my belt for ya

OK....I pressed down with finger between Power Steering Pulley and AC Compressor and could not push hard enough to move Belt Tensioner pulley hardly at all. I then pushed down with my thumb pretty hard (maybe 10 pounds) on the belt and the Belt Tensioner Pulley moved almost as much as your video. If that helps you

Also......your Serpentine Belt is maybe a bit long (by 1/4 inch) making the belt tensioner stroke almost maximum with minimum pressure at maximum stroke. Just judging from the small space between the Belt section passing the Tensioner and the belt section going from the Alternator to the Water Pump.

Yeah its rattling like a mofo too, the tensioner is definitely bad. What are you getting out of that fancy pulley Cliff? Is it just bling?
