NCRS Top Flight, how many ZR-1s?
Does anyone know how many ZR-1s have received Top Flight Awards, McClellan Awards etc or where the info may be obtained? (even better, broken down by year & 2nd and 3rd flight too?)
Thanks, Mystic ZR-1 '90 #2282 |

Re: NCRS Top Flight, how many ZR-1s?
Hi Doug,
I have a regional and national top fllight for 1990 #2529. Did not go to any further, in my opinion PV is not worth the hassle on a ZR-1. I have heard to many stories of nit-picking. Too bad they don't PV a C-4 like they do a C-1 or C-2, then it might be worthwhile. Have a good 4th, John salute |

NCRS would have the records but I doubt they openly publish the numbers.

NCRS will now provide you with all of the judging results for a specific VIN. I think it is $300.00. I'll bet if you contact Roy Sinor he would be able to get the #s for a fee.

1990 ZR-1 # 843 has a Top Flight, PV,a Mclellan Award, and a Crossed Flag Award.
The car also has a Bloomington Gold Certification, a Bloomington Survivor Award, and a Bloomington Benchmark Award. 1991 ZR-1 #692 also has a Top Flight, PV, and a McLellan Award. Last edited by BLACK90ZR1; 08-11-2010 at 11:54 AM. |

Re: NCRS Top Flight, how many ZR-1s?
I've been in email contact with Roy Sinor, he states that 71 ZR-1s have acheived Top Flight status as of the end of 2008 when change to the "system" was begun. Here's part of the email: "I can tell you that before the system was changed our records through 2008 indicated by targeting the Z23 in the VIN that 71 vehicles had received a Top Flight. " Of course this isn't all of them, 2009 and 10 are not included and it doesn't break it down by Local Chapter, Regional or National meet or by year, but it does give a good idea of the number. A big thanks to Roy for the info!

when I asked the regional guys, I was told only 2 ZR-1's had made it all the way to the Crossed Flags award.

Re: NCRS Top Flight, how many ZR-1s?
That could well be true, the numbers get smaller quickly the farther up the tree you go, Local Chapter, Regional, National, PV (a real bitch, make sure your hatch goes all the way up by itself...), McLellan etc. No matter which one you've achieved, it's just that, an acheivement to be proud of! (even if you don't have that little date code sticker stuck somewhere to the seatframe...) And, when your done, you can finally drive the damn thing like Dave McLellan intended!
