Mine cost $4k and it was done by a friend. I think it depends on a lot of things, like, how much prep is needed, if it is a color change, etc.

The previous owner of my black Z paid $9,000 for a tear down paint job. All parts were painted individually. The paint looks good, but the assembly people broke a lot of parts when re-assembling.

While I'm a new Corvette owner, I've restored a number of Italian cars in my time, so here is my $0.02:

I've not had a fiberglass car painted before, but for a traditional metal panel car, you're looking at $10-$15k for a strip to metal and repaint using top quality paint. This assumes you don't have any major bodywork and that you are not doing a color change. You'll save a few $k if you don't have to completely strip the old paint.

I made the mistake once of getting a $4k paint job. I did all the disassembly, badges, etc, and towed the car to the paint shop. It looked great year one, but by year 7 it was fading already, despite being a garage queen. The paint was soft, and chipped easily.

Cost of paint is mostly about labor. Materials range from $2k to $4k. The more attention that is paid to disassembly and masking, the better the result will be. For a show-quality finish, a LOT of labor is involved blocking and sanding, but that effort yields a mirror-like finish that will last decades. I've spent close to $20k on a paint job before, and the car looked straighter than from the factory.

I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to paint, so take this all with a grain of salt. I'd probably walk away from a shop that says they can do it for less than $5k, unless I could see examples of their work that has aged for 5-10 years.

and, there is also the weatherstripping seals to consider. At 25~30 yr old, it should all be removed to do a proper paint job & new installed afterwards. $1000~2000 for parts & labor to remove, clean & re-install new
