Default Oil Leak - Breather Box

Noticed I was leaving a spot of oil on the garage floor.
Got underneath and figured out it was leaking from the rear of the Engine.
Specifically, seemed to be coming down the drain tube at the rear of the oil pan (definitely good practice to keep that drain clear!)

Bolstered by Marc's article on oil leaks - under the plenum I go.

Rear three bolts on that breather box were not even finger tight. Wow!
Torqued up the 6 I can get to (8mm, by the way - 10 Nm/89 in.lb.).

Also noticed the elbow hoses between the breather box and the injector housings were rock hard - off to Jerry's Gaskets. Ordered on a Friday, in my hands by Monday - that's scary fast - kudos Jerry!

Got the hoses off with a few razor blade cuts on the top - rotate them 90 degrees and the bottom connection came free (way easier than old coolant hoses).

So now to clean up the mess in the valley and button everything back up.

Big takeaways:
  1. Torque your breather box bolts if you're under the plenum
  2. Jerry is awesome!
  3. Rock hard crankcase breather hoses aren't as scary to replace as I feared

Default Re: Oil Leak - Breather Box

Glad to hear you were able to trace the oil leak and resolve the issue with the breather box bolts. It's always satisfying to tackle these kinds of maintenance tasks yourself and get everything back in working order.
