A Scratch!

I wanted to get folks' thoughts about how best to handle this scratch? Would anything I do to it be worse than leaving it alone?

With all the foam buffing pads and dual action (not rotary) polishers on the market along with very specialized clearcoat polishes, that's a slam dunk that most people could correct their first time out.

Sorry. I'm really new at this and have no clue what I'm doing. All I've had experience with so far is wash and clay. I did just find this posting. Should I follow step five: polishing? Based on this, it looks like I should get the following products:
1) Porter Cable 7424XP
2) Backing plate
3) Lake Country light/medium polishing pad

Is this correct? What is a recommended specialized clearcoat polish to use?

Goto the auto store buy some scratch x scratch remover if the scratch isn't deep that will come right out you won't need a machine.

If all you want to do is fix that scratch, then pay somebody a few bucks to handle it, but if you like to clean your own cars- be careful! You'll spend $300 on stuff right away. All those things listed above are real good pretty universal products that will last you a long time. might want to buy a 3 pack of the pads as one can't quite do an entire car with a single pad without getting saturated in polish. plus you want to use another pad with compound and not use the same pad for both grits.

I like the Meguires 105 compound and the Meguires 205 finishing polish. That scratch would need the compound- the polish follows it up and clears up lighter swirls and haze. There are many other good product combos. I like to use the orange or yellow pads with the compounds myself- gets a little more work done (more cut). There's a lot of videos on you-tube...pretty much all you need to get started with a porter cable- you pretty much would have to throw the tool at your car to damage the paint with a PC.

If you dont know what you are doing LEAVE IT TO A PRO! The last thing you need to do is try fixing this with anything other than simple polish. If you want come out to Fremont and I'll take a look at it,I'll bring some basic polish and some clean towels or you can stop by the auto store and get some Meguires Scratch Remover and VERY LIGHTLY go over the area and see how it reacts. I've got a few numbers if it needs minor repair.
