Default LTPMS Question

Quick question about the low tire monitoring system. Does the car automatically detect the sensors? Just curious as I bought a set of wheels and tires with them already installed and want to know if my car will recognize them.

What year is your car? I believe you just bought A-molds so those sensors would only be "correct" for '93+ cars UNLESS they were purchased from someone who has already "transferred" the earlier '89 - '92 sensors on them.

Part #'s from the sensor labels will identify which.

My car is a 90. I thought I read that the light would not come on in the 1990 cars if there were no sensors in the wheels, is that correct?

I'll be able to answer that question shortly. I just bought new wheels and am going to use an aftermarket TPMS system. Mystic ZR-1 has a 90 also (as is mine) and his factory wheels sit in the garage. No warning light when he drives away from them.

Is the LTPMS module a stand alone piece? I have no sensors and I am thinking of removing the module all together

(sorry for the semi-hijack, but it is related)

If your dash pad is already removed it could be considered quite easy BUT I don't believe I'd go to the aggravation to remove the dash pad to accomplish it. The connector C215 I believe can be seen with the DIC removed. I've never attempted to "fish it out" (for a disconnect) and I don't think you can.

I don't have LTPMS sensors on my Z06 wheels. No light. Of course, the bulb may be burned out or have been removed too.

Dom, did you do an after market system, or none at all?

My understanding is that each corner broadcasts a different identifier so that the receiver will get 4 different signals. Each wheel corner is identified by a different color sticker and I'm going to say that each p/n is the same no matter what car it is on. There is no need to synch or learn new codes like newer technologies do.

I wonder what happens if you pass another C4 with the same system- would it confuse the receiver? That said, I still get one wheel which sometimes has a weak transmission- the service ltpws comes on. At first it did it all the time, but as the tires wore thin, it got better- now it is acting up again... Next tire change they are getting pitched, but I will say that it has worked to report a low pressure condition when the tire drops below 25 psi. The damn warning light for the ltpws fault is just so bright and I don't want to screw with it anymore- probably pull the light bulb out soon.
