AGREED!!
And, hats off to the photographer(s). Those are some exquisite images! Loosing a data card...now THAT is a new one! I have twin cards in my Nikon 610 - one high rez, and one set at lower rez (backup). So far, I've never had a problem with either (crossed fingers!). Bummer! |

While at Hanford, did ya get to reconnect for old times sake with the Ustafish's (SSBN 632?) reactor compartment (or what's left of it...)? Probably not on the visitor's tour... Doug |

jim, always good to see you two enjoying yourselves in a ZR-1. You served your country and earned a great retirement. Thank you for your service!

Hi Doug, I was able to verify that all the submarine reactor compartments are stored somewhere on the Hanford site , but no one gets a tour. Also, the spent reactor cores are not stored in Hanford. Jim |

Day 19 - We drove from Richland, WA to Baker City, OR. The easy route would have been straight down I-84, BUT, we decided to take the scenic routes through the Wallowa -Whitman National Forest: WA-124 to US-12 (the Lewis and Clark Scenic Trail) to WA-129 to OR-3 to OR-82 (the Hells Canyon Scenic Highway) to I-84.
Heading west out of Richland, we were still surrounded by agriculture: ![]() We stopped in Pomeroy, WA because a good friend of ours back home is Tony Pomeroy and we got a T-Shirt that says "I Love Pomeroy" with a map of Washington. It is a very nice town and we liked the Garfield County Courthouse built in 1901: ![]() US-12 is the Lewis and Clark Trail. There are numerous historical sites to visit: ![]() This barn we found is a very interesting configuration: ![]() Between Clarkson and Lewistown, we turned south an drove thru the mountains on WA-129 and OR-3. These are Mountain Run caliber roads and loads of fun to drive: ![]() ![]() ![]() to be continued..... |

During our travels this year we have not seen much large wild life. We did come across some buffalo in a rancher's field:
![]() ![]() ![]() The "d" key on my keyboar is starting to work intermittently making my typing even slower than normal. I am trying to compose sentences that o not contain d's. We arrived in Baker City, Oregon, where we stayed at one of our favorite hotels, The Geiser Grand Hotel: ![]() The Geiser Grand was built in the 1890's and is a landmark in the area. Like a lot of small cities Baker City was in decay and the Geiser Grand was 30 days from being demolished when it was purchased by a visionary who saw the potential of the building. ![]() Jim |

Day 20 - We drove southeast from Baker City to Twin Falls, ID on I-84. We spotted this Union Pacific train climbing the hill with a consist of container carriers:
![]() The terrain of southeast Oregon is hilly and arid: ![]() Lyndi found the remains of a mine up on the side of a hill: ![]() I-84 in southern Oregon and Idaho is in good condition and the speed limit is 80 mph most of the way: ![]() When we got to Twin Falls, we set out to find the falls. We found the Shoshone Falls east of the city. The area on the west side of the Snake River is owned by the city of Twin Falls. There is a $3.00 per car charge to drive out to the view point, which is well worth the trip: ![]() Shoshone Falls are taller than Niagara Falls. There is a dam above the falls that creates the water level for a power station and the overflow goes over the falls. ![]() ![]() Here is a picture of the Snake River Canyon looking west toward the Perrine Bridge and Twin Falls: ![]() Further down the canyon there is the picturesque Twin Falls Country Club at the floor of the canyon: ![]() Jim |
