Can I get a lift?

Glad to see you got it installed Your comment suggests that you are supporting the upper Z by the cables (which are rated at 14K lbs each) and not with the locks...yea that would concern me a bit... can you adjust the lock rails upward so that the next lock slot would be in position to have the lock work? If not you could just place a 2x4 'post' in each column snug to the cross rails...not optimum but at least some additional safety factor.

Lee just re-adjust the rails the the safety locks catch on. You should have some adjustment up or down with the adjustment nut. I think mine lift had about 6 inchs of thread . The ram will leakdown until the lift finds the safety latch over time.

Do you have a standard garage door opener on the door where your lift is like the one on the right in the pic below?


If so, you can gain some overhead height by changing to a jackshaft opener by Lift Master and adding the rail extensions.

I was even able to remove one of the door panels that were required to use the standard screw-drive opener.

In this picture you can see the opener motor. It is the black mechanism attached to the door counter-balance spring rod:

Jim, my issue is not the drive, its the door height.....by the way can you come over and put my compressor up in the air like that

I bought a Superior lift a few years back through the GS Registry. Nice thing is that it came with casters so I can move it anywhere in the basement. Drip pans are a must too!

Hey Pete,

Here is a WebSite that shows the opener I bought.

It is a very nice setup. I got a button for inside the garage, a keypad for outside the garage and a mini remote to keep in the car (which has a better range that the Genie). There system does not integrate with the Genie or Sears systems but no big deal. It comes with an overhead light.

Install is a little more involved that a screw drive opener, but it was not a problem.

Phil (Jagdpanzer) clued me in on this opener.

No problem, I'll bring my son. Without his help to lift it, I would still be walking around it.

I know what you mean about the door. Can you gain any height by adding the track extensions? What happened to me was even after I raised the door as high as I could, the L-shaped bracket that sticks down from a screw drive opener "took away" about 8 inches of usable space.
