Guys,

Al is currently installing the Dynomaxs on my car as we speak.
He sent me a couple of pics from the install and I should have the car this weekend. I'll post the pics shortly and you can get an idea of what they're like.
The Z06 tips really add some bling. They're like Corsas on steroids as far as the tips are concerned. I looked at Pete's last night and he is using the B+B tips and we discussed how to connect the Z06 flappers to vacuum so they flip open at WOT. I also took a video of the MFlows at idle and I'll do the same with the Dynos for a compare. BTW, Al has a set of new Dynos available for $160.

Actually, that clip was supporting the "no trans rattle" thread, but if you want to include it in an exhaust note thread, I should add these details, I recon!
  • SW stainless header, 2" primaries and 3" collector
  • 3" piping dual exhaust
  • No cats
  • SW X pipe
  • Magnaflow muffs (with 2-1/2" inlets, dual 1-7/8" outlets

As equipped, there is some resonance, but not so much as to prevent normal conversation or radio (music) from being heard.

Dom and I had essentially the same system before he changed muffs to the Dynomax/flapper (which appears to be a trend among the FBI gang). So, I'm interested to see what if any HP change that Dom sees as result of adding the Dynomax 3-in 2-out w/ vacuum actuated flapper.

Question ...

Has anyone dynoed or have a reasonable idea how much hp is gained with turbo muffler (i.e. dynomax) over stock mufflers (later years)?

I'm wondering about a comparison of these 2 setups
headers, 3" x-pipe, dynomax vs headers, 3" x-pipe, stock mufflers
what effect(s) on sound, resonance, hp?

It would be interesting to know how these 2 setups match up. Anyone?

George

george , don't have the stk comparison . but do have one with the corsa and the dyno max super turbo set up . my best e.t. with the corsa was 12.48@114.66 at fontana with the corsa .with the super turbo set up before i added the xpipe was 12.04@116.91 mph . there were no other changes . my mile an hour was consistently up by 2 mph and the low end seemed to be better .hope this helped .

Cliff,
Thanks for the idle speed and no good video yet. Stock exhaust on now too. What are your thought about how the SW mufflers are designed and flow? Paul G from SW said they are turbo mufflers but they don't know the SCFM flow. I like the wide tips they have for ZR-1 but only fits their mufflers with the dual tips.

Dom,
Thanks and can't wait to see and hear this set up. I bet it is friggin awesome. I thought about Al's deal, but the shipping for me is the deal breaker........too bad.

George,
I know you meant the Dynomax Ultra-flo, just wanted to mention because it seems Dynomax has some turbo mufflers too, but the flow is very restricted like 1/3 the Ultra-flo design and not a straight through design.

I thought I uploaded these. Here's some preliminary pics from Al's install of the Dynomax Ultra-Flows + Z06 tips. Stock hangers. We'll use Charcoal cannister vacuum to operate flapper valve.

Dom,

Wow, it looks great and Al is a pro. Big thanks for the pics as it gives a better idea about how tips fit on these mufflers with the available space. The tips are wider apart than the B&B so I really needed these photos. Love it.........

Just spoke to Al and Pete. They both told me it looks great. Al also had the opportunity to listen to the exhaust. He said it sounds awesome when blipping the throttle. Al has a set of Z06 tips and now he's thinking about using them on his 441!

"We get our best performance results when a Corsa exhaust system is used. One may wonder how better power is produced with 2.5" system than with a 3" system. The picture pretty much tells the whole story. The obstruction in the muffler is much more significant than the pipe size." Haibeck Website

I know I have posted it before, but I do not think that this really proves the Corsa 2.5 is the best system or 2.5 inch is ideal.....it just says that the 2.5 Corsa can outflow a 3" system with a choked muffler...like the B&B has

GM used a 3" exhaust on their race cars.....the jig for the 3" system still exists.....

Lee,

I think we saw that part of the problem on these "swaps" is that most installs don't include making the calibration changes to optimize the change. I found that to be true after having removed the resonator and replaced it w the SW X-pipe. In comparing the last run prior to and the first run after the swap, the dyno results were nearly identical. However, the AFR clearly was shifted to the lean side which them needed to be compensated for. Once that was done, we ended up w an additional 15rwhp w the Xpipe. But just slapping something on there won't make much diff. Now we'll get an idea of what diff if any the Dynomax muff make. Again, I expect that to require some tuning. In fact, if there's no change required in the tune, then the Dynos don't really make any difference.
