OK for those new to this car. I found that car after a tip from a friend. It was located at a community college that trains techs for GM, Crysler and Ford. They wanted to donate to a museum but GM still owned the cat and would not let it go to the NCM. They took it back to the Heritage center. I knew when I found out that they had #3 that sooner or later this car would come out. The car was repainted by the tech school as a training exercise. I think the odo showed 270 miles when I saw it so it must have gone to the tech center very early. The school turned $250k in late 90s.

It shows 344 Miles on the ODO now. The paint job is actualy not bad. It must have a ton of metallic layers because it appears a purplish maroon when lit in one direction and blue in another and black when lit from above. There are painted pin stripes on it. That are really clear coated in they are so subtle I did not see them until it was lit at my building.

OK I left you at key control. You go there they check you ID and Bill of Sale and they give you your keys. They then tell you what tent the car is in and off you go. You find it and do the walk around and pull and poke at all the things you couldnt do before. When you pay they provide you with a temp license tag if it remains in the area. Then you can drive it away. It's quite an experience to win and 30 minutes later your driving it off the lot. You head to the main gate. You hand the yellow copy to the gate attendant. They compare the VIN on the Bill of Sale to the VIN of the car. They check you ID again. Then the gate opens up and away you go. All of that took place for 004 except the drive off part. Since it was sold on a salvage title they would not provide a temp tag for it. I had a flat bed tow truck haul it off the lot to my building. That was fun. they had to pull me through a crowded tent with a golf cart to the flat bed. Ever try to steer a ZR-1 with bad brakes and no power steering through a thousand people. All of them laughing at the POS you just paid $50K for!
The towing company owner drove the cart. He was also the guy that towed the car to the block with the Razor ATV. More on that story later... Eric |

Update on the car. Put air in the two front tires. The passenger side tire holds air, the driver side doesn't. I hope some slime will fix that since the tires appear original. The more I look at the engine the more it looks like it may only have 344 miles on it. It is so clean. I dropped the spare crawled around underneath. The tire bag has been chewed by a mouse. The tire has "Pilot #4" written with grease pen on it. The battery in the car is dead. I pulled that. None of the relays in the battery area are secured to anything. #74 has them fastened to brackets etc. The ECU is remanufactured, but the part number matched the one in #74. I will get some pictures up later.
Also heard back from Allied Vaughn (vehicleinvoice"at"gmmediaarchive.com Stacy) She informs me that there isn't an invoice for #4. For some reason she said "I recognize this VIN" then says the system says its marked as "a company car PEP scrapped vehicle" Can anyone guess what PEP means? She didn't know. Fun RPO codes from the SPI: AR9: seats: Seat front European Style Pass/driver WD1: Pilot vehicle UM6: Non bose cassette deck Stay tuned... Last edited by 1989ZR1#74; 01-21-2010 at 11:25 PM. |
