Default Found a picture of an 1988 Active!!!

Found this in a 1990 Vette magazine. They incorrectly call it a 1991 pilot. The car has a P number of P8Y083A. The article says it had "NASA ducts" in the hood for cooling. I think it's an early active. Either way we have another 88 sighting....

Looks like Dark Red Metallic. I did notice that the door edge dog leg panel don't seem to fit very well. The doors were modified by hand. At least Tyler's doors were. That may account for the edge not lining up very well on this car, maybe?

Seats look like Gray? what a weird color combo.

Anyone recognize this GM car? I imagine it was an 88 with the "aero" package:

Never seen that photo before. GM offered the kit and called it a GTO body kit.

So that thing where the passenger headlight is supposed to be is a duct? It looks like an opened headlight installed backwards.

Hard to see in the scan, but there are two ducts between the head lights. right in front of the "power bulges" I am sure there was a reason for the headlight being half open too.

Here are pics of the race car that they used to base the GTO kit off of.

Story of this car and Body Kit

This car included improved flow aluminum heads, new front and rear two piston brakes calipers which were tested on the Morrison cars at Daytona and Sebring. Several other items were included on this corvette which were test of features that were not part of the 1988 corvette program but were of particular value for other programs. These included the Corvette Aero Kit which was sold by GM service parts and was used to homologate the Corvette for GTO and Trans Am racing. The engine used a reverse flow cooling system using propylene glycol coolant. This corvette used a Doug Nash 5 speed transmission with gear ratios being looked at for the ZF 6 speed. A high mounted brake light using LED's was being considered for the upcoming ZR-1 and this was also included on this prototype.
