Ok. Shouldn't be a problem.

They do look sweet Phil, just so everyone knows they are C6 brakes that came off a Z51 option car. I was told at the time that they were a small improvement over the C5 ZO6 & stock C6. when I had to order the Baer 2 peice rotors, I had to specify Z51 brakes. Hope this little bit of info is helpful. Phil will need all the stopping power he can get after he puts in his WAZOO monster motor

C5 and C6 base rotors are 13x1.25". For comparison, your J55 rotors are 13x1.1". The C5+ rotors are noticeably thicker, they will take more braking to heat up than the J55's. If you stand them up next to each other, the C5 rotor is slightly shorter, but both are close enough to be called 13" rotors. The thickness of the rotor, plus a slightly larger caliper, is where the performance increase comes from.

There is no performance difference between C5 and base C6 brakes. However there is a cosmetic difference. The C6 caliper is painted grey and has larger "CORVETTE" lettering. The C5 base caliper is just rough aluminum, and the C5 Z06 caliper is painted red. The C6 Z51 uses the same caliper, but a different caliper bracket. It has a 13.5x1.25" rotor. However, the rotors are expensive, and might not fit in your wheel.

C5 and C6 rotors are also interchangeable but different. C5 rotors have directional vanes, C6 rotors have radial vanes.

Brett,
Sorry to hijack your thread, but I now want big brakes and see there is a lot of discussion here already. With the DRM coilovers on the way, now is the time to upgrade brakes if I'm going to do this right.

The problem I have is like Brett, I am not willing to get rid of Dymag IIs to have bigger brakes even though it limits me. It seems the C5/6 might be the best way to go even though I was thinking of SSBC Tri-Power; not sure if rears will fit.

The other problem is I am still moving around the world and my stock 90 wheels (pc'd black center) are my shipping wheels so even more limited than the Dymags from what I have read on other posts.

So if I am not willing to get rid of my 90 OEMs to use for transporting the car, I can't do any upgrades? I read that the C5/6 can't fit in the 90 wheels. I'm trying to confirm with SSBC about the Tri-power (all it says is it fits 17" wheels), but not all 17" wheels are the same according to the information I have found so far.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Craig

Exclamation Re: Big Brakes Needed

Craig,

The Brembos I had originally would fit under A molds.

Thanks Dom. I guess A molds have more clearance even though 17" wheels and my Dymag Gen IIs have more clearance than the stock 90 MY wheels? I'm not sure how to confirm this other than with folks that have upgraded with 90 MY wheels. Worst case is I give up on the 90 wheels (sell them) and ship the car with the CCWs or just stop moving round the world and settle down already.............if I want bigger brakes.

Craig,

Wilwoods would be an option possibly.
