Nice work, I'm anxious to see how she performs with the fuel pump mod. It's the first, aside from the ones Haibeck has done, I've seen.

Got a link for the South Bay injectors?

So the car is purring like a kitten but, I couldn't drive her because the clutch and brakes weren't functional. I ended up having to replace:

*Clutch mater
*Clutch Slave
*Clutch pressure line
*Brake Master

Once I had all the hydraulics working, I could finally take the car on her maiden voyage! Car drove well, but when I would get into high RPM, it would cut out like it was losing fuel. It did this whether I was in full power mode or not, so I knew it wasn't the secondaries.

First step was to rent a fuel pressure gauge with a long enough hose to tape to my windshield and watch what was happening under load. After one pull it quickly became apparent that the car was running out of fuel in high RPM. A 255 pump can certainly handle the fueling requirements for this car, so what was going on with my new fuel pump? Well, Walbros are sold out due to Covid so I bought a Quantum off Amazon... I've used this brand before, and it was unusually cheaper on Amazon than their website. I must of gotten a knock off or incorrectly sent stock LPH pump! So I ordered the Racetronix 255 with the C4 install kit after some research

The Racetronix C4 install kit is impressive, nice hardware and wiring! I installed it tonight and took the car for a spin after thoroughly warming her up: RUNS LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL!!!!!! WOW! The engine just screams to redline, and the Corsa exhaust is just music to my ears! I'm head over heels in love with her, and can't wait to get some dry weather and tear up the back roads!

Fuel pump mod works awesome, just make sure you use a Walbro or Racetronix 255 pump!

I actually emailed Marc and discussed his mod with him last week (he's a great guy btw!) , and showed him some wiring adapters on Racetronix vs soldering pump #2 into a Y with #1. Marc said soldering them into a Y is the only way they can handle the increased voltage from the aftermarket pumps. I showed him pictures of how I did it, and he said that's the right way to do it! So anyone with trashed double fuel pump senders, is now good to go thanks to Marc Haibeck!

Jeff,

Below is the link for South Bay injectors. They are re manufactured and flow tested Bosch injectors. I called the owner and spoke with him, and he said he sells a lot and has never had a set sent back. I tested mine on my buddies flow bench, and they were flawless!

Fascinating saga! I've been following your progress - not jumping in as you were in good hands throughout, and great to bring her back to life!

As I read through, I just have a couple items:
  1. When replacing plenum gaskets, there are a couple tricks I have found that (for me at least) seem to work well:
  2. I lay the new gaskets on a flat surface and spray the top side (ONLY) with silicone spray (ACE Hardware).
  3. Then I use 3M gasket adhesive between the gasket and the Injector housing around the coolant ports; on both the left and right gasket/injector housings. (perhaps an unnecessary left-over from previous gasket experience I suffered before JERRY'S GASKETS came to the rescue!)
  4. Good luck with the "refurbished" injectors. As long as they are immune to the effects of alcohol blended fuels, my main concern is mitigated. But, "take this with a grain of salt", once they're up to operating temperature and then the resistance is measure for stock or Accel replacement is in the 12-14Ω range, but resistance in the 8Ω area (again when HOT) was a sure sign of failure. (I'm not familiar with injectors measuring 40Ω initially - seems way out of the normal range - at least for what [most of us] I believe have experienced.) In any case, the range of resistance for good injectors is typically within a couple ohms or so. Failure, on the other hand, is indicated by a significant reduction from the normal resistance (e.g., if the normal resistance range was [say] 12Ω when hot, but a particular injector reads 10Ω or less, trouble was indicated, and by the time they get down to 8Ω [again when hot] they were done!)
  5. I'm unfamiliar with the "Y" wire harness configuration mentioned, along with the L98 fuel pump(s?) scenario. Far as I know it hasn't been written up for the Heart of the Beast quarterly member's newsletter (someone correct me if I'm wrong). But, if you would like to write it up, or even provide me with the details, I'd be happy to draft an article for your review/submission to the "HOTB" quarterly magazine.

Well, with all that said, Welcome to the BROTHERHOOD OF THE BEAST!

P.

I found one bad primary and one bad secondary injector. Were they bad when they were installed?.. possibly.. Are these Ford FOTE-05A fuel injectors compatible with this ZR-1?

I can either order a couple of these same injectors and flow match a full set (which would be very cheap to do). Or order the proper ZR-1 injectors..

Congrats and welcome! That's a pretty cool test rig.
