Re: Update on ZR-32's lineage.
Chuck Lombardo was a long time customer of mine. I helped Chuck and all the street rod companies of that era solving brake problems as the president of Power Brake Service. youtube.com/powerbrakeservice
I believe I was the original inspiration of putting an LT5 in a street rod into Chuck's ear. The following year at SEMA, I was in the Chevrolet booth, along with Floyd Garrett, and Reggie Jackson. There was Chuck showing the drawings of the proposed ZR 32 to the Chevrolet execs. . I haven't read the entire thread, BUT I was at CSR when Ser no. 3 was there. I pulled my 66 427 roadster alongside, and photographed both cars. The #3 car went to SEMA with Boyd's Wheels. I have photos of all. I ended up with many of the loose parts off the red car stripped down in these photos. One item of interest was an aluminum harmonic damper Degree Wheel. I bought a 1991 ZR-1, PPG Turquoise, New, now with 250,000 miles on it. I picked up from Chuck a set of the flat cap ZR1 wheels while I was there one time. THOSE wheels are on my 91. The slots have been painted Turquoise to match, and the face polished. Now THOSE wheels came off of one of those cars photographed here. Either from No.3, No. 55 ( I believe 55) or an EXP car. They were well used, and had some hard track miles on them. This was sometime in 1991 or 1992. |

Re: Update on ZR-32's lineage.
Although I did pick up some interesting pieces, all tagged "experimental", I did not feel I was entitled to "load up". It wasn't clear WHO was the owner of the remains. I was excited to get those 1988 11" wheels at no charge. They were scraped on the inside edge and bent. I had to straighten them, and shave the edges clean. Actually my tires were shot at the time. I transferred the tires first. A guy contacted me who was installing an LT5 in a convertible. I sold him the thermostat housing, a Double dia power brake booster, which I sell, and some other pieces to help him assemble a ZR1 convert.
I could ask Chuck if he knows more about the remains of that car. I'm sure that reservoir was there, but I did not pick it up. IF we only knew then what we know now. |

Re: Update on ZR-32's lineage.
Bob, great to see your post. I think we traded DMs on the Corvette Forum a few years ago. The scrapped car pictured, P8Y084 was 1988 KOH LT5 Vin number #55. Your wheels dated 2/88 would have come from a Pilot 89 not a prototype 88. They where built long before 2/88. Car #003 was built in 1988, but it looks like it still has it's original wheels. Hmmm.
