This information came from someone that deals with GM's collection on a daily basis. I try not to bother him 2 much but when I talk to him in the next couple of months, I "might" be able to get the VIN's for 1 and 3( I will try and get the color of #1), the reason I have this contact is I have been working on a C4 race car book and made the right connections for some of my research. Can we get a complete list of the 88 and 89 ZR-1 VIN's in one place or do you have them all? I know I would like to have this info for reference purposes in dealing with my book because the ZR-1's were raced in ALMS in 90 and 91 by Morrison.

I talked to Chuck Mallett yesterday and he told me his brother Lance had documented every car that Morrsion had built (they worked for Tommy from 83-95 I believe)so I will be talking to them in the near future to see what info that they have that would be useful to me and your search for the early cars.

The specific info is avaiable on the build sheets that you can get from the NCM. I have a copy of ALL 1988 ZR-1 build sheets so what do you need to know.

Is there a way to back trace a VIN from an EX number?? I am looking for the VIN for this car and the only thing I know is the EX number is 5038. This is the L98 car that was run at Ft. Stockton with the record breaking ZR-1 in 1990. This car should be one of the 89 L98 prototypes I believe.

There is no "civilian" way to determine that. You could find it if you had access to the car. The VIN would be on the Build sheet in the cross member, on the Build Sheet on the gas tank (although I would bet it has a fuel cell so no tank) on the frame in front of the battery or on the SPI under the center console lid (my bet that's gone as well).

What we can guess at though is it was most likely an 1988, produced during 1987 production or early 1988 production (ie around August 1987). The EX number is probably too low to be an 1989 or later. Go look at the second post on the thread. It is where I am keeping a running list of know EX and P numbers. You will see that Tyler's Queenie has an EX# of EX5014 and it was produced during the 1987 model year.

Tyler on your build sheet information, what vin number was EX5026? That would narrow it down somewhat. We could assume it was after that one. Would that have been #57?

Eric

The last 1988 ZR-1 prototype should have had this 1988 VIN:

1G1YY2180J5100057
This car was EX5026

So I would think that the L98 Ft Stockton car would have been 'newer' then that VIN.

Looking at the remarks on Tyler's sheet the car was probably in the #64 to 73 range. if it was a 1 to 1 EX to VIN (which I doubt) it would be 1988 VIN#069. So if I had to hunt for it through The NCM build sheets or through GMs Media Archives I would check #69,#70,#71,#72 or #73. or 1989 Pilot cars #001 through #023

Thanks for trying, the car had the new 6 speed in it so maybe one of the 89 Pilot cars? The only bad thing about try to track the VIN down is not knowing all the letters in the VIN because they change from one to the next one and they do not stay the same.

Tyler, do you have the complete VIN's from 100001-100023 for the 1989 L98 Pilot cars?

Brett, that's easy to calculate. I will crunch those for you tomorrow. Eric
