Day 4: We enjoyed a wonderful drive on the Sandhills Journey, NE-2 from Grand Island, Nebraska to Alliance, NE. This route is considered one of the top ten scenic drives in the US. We then drove southwest to Cheyenne, WY and checked in to the Historic Plains Hotel. I will post some pictures tomorrow when we get to Park City.
Thank you for the kind remarks. Jim |

We drove from Cheyenne, WY to Park City Utah. The weather was nice and the scenery was fantastic. There were periods of fog that enhanced the views of the mountains.

Here are some pictures from Day 4 - driving to Cheyenne
From Grand Island, we drove north to NE-2 then west to the Alliance, NE: The roads are in good condition and the traffic was light. The open road was calling: All of the hills in this area of Nebraska are sand, not rock, very different than the geology of most areas we drive through: |

Along the Sandhills Journey we visited several interesting small towns. We enjoyed the glimpses of the past. Many of the old buildings have been carefully maintained or nicely restored:
We put the Arrow Hotel in the town of Broken Bow on our Bucket List to come back a stay: NE-2 follows one of the main lines of the Central Pacific Railroad. We passed at least 12 trains during our drive. Coal made up most of the traffic including at least 1500 coal cars headed East. Jim |

Here are some pictures from the trip from Cheyenne to Pack City, Utah:
We got on I-80 for the whole trip. Overall the trip was wonderful and we had no problems. There was a little morning fog, but not too bad. The scenery on I-80 is fantastic!! We crossed the Continental Divide at 7000 feet. In Green River, Wyoming we stopped to watch some trains. In the Central Pacific's Green River Yard there is a pedestrian cross-over that we enjoy. The train traffic on a Saturday was light, but after a 20 minute wait, we were rewarded with an East bound mixed freight train: [URL=https://app.photobucket.com/u/QB93Z/a/357b071d-d68b-419b-8d85-79c7dab83222/p/52a3a26f-3cba-4c34-8647-c1f53769374e] We arrived at early in the afternoon made preparations for a week of relaxation.
