So around $10k when you add the crank just for the short block. So after you received the short you had to add long block assembly, head and plenum port work, maybe CAMs, plus engine removal and install from the car, plus tune, plus headers and some other odds and ends. Looks like another $8-10k to Finnish. Assuming you would start with a stock motor. Am I close?? That would be about $10k less than most LT5 guys would build you a 415 for a year or two ago. I think your got a great deal and it helps to have had a 402 to start with. Who did your short block and did you use the closed deck liners? The nice thing about the tubo system is you just drop your old exhaust and replace with the turbo system. It's a little more complex than that, you do have to add the turbo oil system and the wire harness but not much... Cheers, RH

Well it was a good week. Last week I removed the stereo and shipped it to Dr Don. Was informed the amps were out of a Caddy. So they needed to be replaced, decide to use the amps out a a convertible that will give a little more power. The head unit couldnt be just repaired to stock so it was upgrade to play all types of CDs. With luck it will go back in this weekend. Havent a clue how Im going to get the reciever back in, dont know how I got it out. lol
Was able to replace the injectors, coils and two wheel bearings this weekend. While under the car noticed oil leaking out of the rear shocks, so they'll get sent out next. Then its onto installing a five speed in the 1979............ Last edited by Toyvet1; 01-04-2010 at 10:41 PM. |

Hi Ron Yes It has the closed deck liners. I was the first, Tony @AES & I figured out how to do them He seams to thinkyou can go to a 4.155 bore but You would need head gaskets. You could get copper But I wouldn't run them on the street, Besides there is something about a 427 CORVETTE It kind of has a nice ring to it. I can't wait for BG I think Todd will have his closed deck 427 6 inch rod LT5 there Also

The Bore is 4.125 & the stroke is 4.00 the Rod length is 5.85 the rods are the ones that Rippie used when he bilt the 402. I just can't remember what brand they are, Unless you open the chamber up in the heads you can't use a 6 inch rod unless you wan't 13 to 1 compression.
Ron isn't that car of yours a 368 with low compression? Or was I thinking of something else ? Bob G 427 LT5 |
