Well, I finally did it. I'd been thinking for quite a while that now is the time to get another ZR-1, so last weekend I flew out to Baltimore and picked this beauty up from David Johnson. Drove it back and really enjoyed the trip. Stopped off south of Chattanooga to spend the night with parents, then drove back to Dallas the following day. Finally got it cleaned up yesterday and took some pictures. Car turned 100K miles on the trip, but is very nice. Got a few minor issues to take care of:
  • Front amps need replacing.
  • AC doesn't work (AC head is loose in dash, so may just be a loose connection there).
  • Tach is off
Otherwise, it's like a new car. New paint, donor interior from a 40K mile car, all engine maintenance done and refinished, 5 spoke A-molds with full tread GY F1 GS-D3s, new ZR-1 windshield, Euro tail lights.

The car drives great and pulls hard, saw well into the triple digits on the way home and buried the tach needle past 8K (thus knowing the tach is off). It's of course a 25 year old car, so nothing like my 13 GS (supercharged with 800HP), but it's definitely a lot of fun. A more "raw" driving experience with no driver's aids (just ABS, not even traction control since it's a 91). And of course when you open the hood, there's nothing like an LT5, got to be the best looking engine ever in a Corvette.

My plans for the car are to finish up the minor items (above), and then probably do a few mods. It's still got the stock shifter (which really isn't that bad, very smooth, just somewhat tall), so will probably change that. Get Corey Henderson to do top end porting on it and put some long tubes on. Maybe do some gears (3.75 or 4.11). David included 95 style gills (painted to match), so I do need to decide if I want to swap those on. I also plan on adding the ZR-1 emblems on the sides of the hood.

OMG YES YES YES!!!
