Re: Sitting here in the doldrums of Winter and this is the thought that came to mind.
I’ve been deliberating this thing for quite some time. This thread has just helped me make up my mind. I don’t need race car brakes with giant calipers and rotors. Even a C6 Z06 setup is an easy $1k or more. The C5 Z06 setup just doesn’t get you much improvement. I just don’t drive the Z that way often. A good set of rotors and Hawk HPS pads on our 13” front J55 systems should be plenty. I do want a little more bling. I just picked up a nice like new set of 96’ GrandSport calipers. Should give me the bling I’m looking for with minimal installation issues.

Wouldn’t a can of red heat resistant spray paint be cheaper[emoji16]

Re: Sitting here in the doldrums of Winter and this is the thought that came to mind.
I was seriously thinking big brakes until I did the DRM brake bias spring. That alone made a noticeable change to how the brakes feel. Yes, they still feel like 90s brakes (not as much initial "bite" and needing more pedal effort), but way better than stock which was to heavy on the front during hard braking. I think at this point I could just change to an aggressive street pad (currently running PowerStop Z26 ceramics) if I wanted more stopping power.

Hans,
I would leave the Calipers Black for your red car.. it will be a nice contrast. Then if you are motivated use the caliper paint kit for the rears, it is brushed on but works great. I need to paint my rear calipers to match the front, but it has been low on the list

Re: Sitting here in the doldrums of Winter and this is the thought that came to mind.
I actually bought both the fronts and the rears from the GS (it was actually a CE LT4). They are painted black as well. I’ll be changing all four out. They will stay black. I like the contrast look too. The rears are the same as the normal J55’s already on all ZR-1’s. Since my car has such high miles I figured it couldn’t hurt to change them as well. The doner car had relatively low miles.

Re: Sitting here in the doldrums of Winter and this is the thought that came to mind.
Mystic ZR-1, those are nice! I am in the middle of doing mine right now. Did you rebuild the rear calipers as well, I am waiting on the rebuilt kits to come in. Everyone says not to rebuild the rears but my piston boot had a hole in it.. I coated mine with the G2 caliper coating.. so far so good. This is a shot of it drying , next is after the dry.
