Around those years, the rear covers on LS engines had a casting porosity issue, the oil would ocassionally wick through the aluminum rear cover. I have only encountered the issue on 2010 and 2011 Camaro's, but I don't know why the issue would be confined to F-bodies.
There is an updated part number from GM that comes with a new rear cover, with the rear main seal installed, and new bolts. The last one I bought was about $55 from the local dealer. Easy to install, a pain to get to. Good luck!
