If the solenoid pull's in, that means the safety circuits have been satisfied.
The only reason the starter does not crank, is worn solenoid contacts.

You can bypass this that or the other thing, But it all comes back to worn or eroded contact points.

Pull the starter and replace the solenoid contact faces. Problem solved........

How do these contact points wear so much faster than every other starter on any other car
I have ever owned. Ours wearing at around 40K miles is way way early. Most every other car the starters are outside the block in the elements yet they last 100k+ miles.

If its the heat what can we do to keep them cooler?

The contact points do not wear (burn) any faster on the LT5 as far as I know. Unless you have a starter with the poor windings or bad brushes or bad armature which is taking more current than it should to rotate. Or bad armature bearings or bad starter gear bearing. Or poor contact of the starter gear with the flywheel teeth. Or your valley drain is clogged and you pressure wash your engine.

I always clean up the Solenoid contact points on the LT5 starters when I am there simply because it is so easy to do.
I also always install the Starter Relay....again....simply because it is so easy to do.
I also block TB Coolant at the injector housing simply because that makes removing the plenum so much easier and quicker...well.........you get the picture

Oh.....I doubt heat is the issue for starter issues................just for starters

Make sure you block TB coolant at the Injector Housing when you are there under the Plenum......then you do not have to plan/schedule plenum pulls (you can just pull the plenum during a coffee break)

See Injector Housing TB Coolant Blocking

I pulled two plenums at once in 30 minutes the other day just to replace a check valve and organize the vacuum lines identical on each engine just for the heck of it

I also installed Jerry's New PCV Dual Hose, Connectors and Grommets on each engine eliminating all the Claptrap Nylon Ties and Claptrap screw clamps

The Claptrap is not necessary on Jerry's New Hoses, Connectors and Grommets with their very nice tight/perfect fit on the PCV Valves and Tubing.

See Six things I ALWAYS do on any LT5.

2 deg a while ago.........LOL
At the moment it is minus 4 deg.

Now that would cause starting issues I am sure to put this back on track

But in CA.....it is near 70 deg.
I pulled the Plenums in CA......LOL
With TB Coolant Blocked at Injector Housings.

Nice. Maybe you could chase a Tomcat taking off down the runway at sunset.

We used to drag race on that road. The neighborhood also go a lot quieter when they went to F-18's too.
