No you are right alot of old hot rodders do it, just takes alot of work. I think the magnesium fear is overplayed.....go on ebay and look at all of the bare gasser wheels for sale and then restored and put on vehicles.

There are a few more pictures of this car floating around somewhere. One of the things I find interesting is with the early prototype cars and the Mules is they were built in colors that production ZR-1s were never offered in.There is picture somewhere of an early car in silver, one of the headlights is stuck halfway up.If I ever have to repaint my car it will be an off silver with super fine metallic.Ive been in touch with a guy that has a water jet company and asked about some custom emblems if it ever got that far.A silver Bleeder, ooooooooooooooh yea baby!

don't forget, gm had other colors pre-1990. two tones, silver, light blue...those were standard colors when the mules were being tested

Much better IMHO. The black halo, the dymags, very classy.

I always wanted a silver one, but now days silver is one of the most popular colors in the marketplace, now not so much.

That SoCal silver one has been around since the early days. It got clipped when nearly new, and the owner changed it to silver.

It sounds crazy, but because there were no other silver Vettes in that time period, they should have gone to a Cadillac silver (deep, fine, metallic) and painted ALL ZR-1's silver. Engine to match, "active suspension" style raised hood, and ZR-1 specific wheels.

I think you would see some way better auction prices recently if they'd made the car more distinctive. JMHO
