I have to agree with you on the "Claw" Lee, Its not so much the claw piece its the cheapo POS plastic they used for the top of the air cleaner. I have many of these cracked at the corners and yellowing after time and looking like crap. Maybe the claw if it was attached to a smooth metal air box like the underside of the Coplan air blaster.

This is surprising Bob. I wonder if an airflow vortex is happening on the open air element side ? Vs. the stock paper setup?

I think maybe you are confusing the Claw with the Vortex Ram-air. The Claw is all metal and is a one piece set-up not counting the filters, the Vortex is made from cheap plastic. The Vortex is a real CAI, requiring cutting of the radiator shroud. I always thought the Vortex concept was pretty decent but they totally blew it on execution.

I put one of those on my 94 LT-1 many years ago. Mine had a scoop on the bottom rather than the cut lid you have here. The idea of it made sense but I honestly didn't notice any difference in performance. Then again I never did any real testing on it - purely seat of the pants.

the 2 i have are like what bob had on his 83 and what found out was that it was worth a tenth and aprox 1.5mph in the 1/4 vs the stk setup with a cut lid. most of the gain was in the top end when speed got above 80 mph . as 1/8th mile improved just 1/2 mile an hr .my bottem lid has slots in it to help get rid of water in a rainy deal . if glaff would like one for a little while to use to see what it would cost to reproduce i would be happy to led him one

Thanks Robert, I wish I had something to compare it with. The one you had probably worked better if it had a scoop to help catch the air. We really don't have any good, high quality choices do we...........
