I'm a fan of the Bright Aqua as well, but there's something about a Melon Copper Metallic ZR-1 that says "Unique" to me!

Hi guys, I was gone over the weekend and was happily surprised to see the thread continue, when I checked it Monday. I do try to post only when I have a keyboard in front of me...typing (texting) from my phone always becomes an exercise in frustration!

All good posts! Thanks guys!

As an enthusiast who does not need a ZR-1, but can't help himself, I check out EBay almost as a daily routine for newly listed ZR-1's. I also check out other sites such as our own ZR1.Net's for sale section and Autotrader, etc., every once and a while.

It isn't a knock to more common color ZR's (they are all beautiful), but red or black '90 and '91 ZR-1's were abundantly produced and are always available. I am kind of let down to see the very same ZR-1's listed every time I do a search. In that period of time up until the early/mid 2000's, it wasn't uncommon to see the occasional Black Rose/beige car; a Competition Yellow '94 or '95; a Dark Red metallic or Steel Blue...well you get the picture..

Where have all "these" cars gone? Are the owners holding on to them longer in speculation of future prices? Why don't we see the more uncommon and later year ZR-1's crossing the block very often anymore?

I say "anymore" because other than a few colors, ZR-1's don't seem to be changing owners anymore like they used to.

It does appear that those that own the rarer colors put them up for sale far less often.
While speculation cannot be ruled out as a motive, it might be equally plausible that they just love the color and car more and more. Couple this with the knowledge that they would find it hard to replace if they ever let it go, and maybe they just do not want to take the risk of selling something that is nearly irreplaceable.
While there are always newer and better, sometimes you just want what is most meaningful to you. I would enjoy a C-6 or a C-7 ZR-1, but would not consider selling my Ruby. I am not keeping it for future value and also understand that a hearse has no car trailer hitch. I keep it because it is a mini vacation every time I look at, play with it or drive it. Things change, but that feeling has remained the same for over 20 years. Maybe those with the rarer colors, or even the common ones feel the same as I do.

Marty, this pretty much sums it up for me too (about the ZR-1 being "the car" for me). For that, it doesn't matter the color and I never meant to infer one was better than the other (of course some of you know think red is the fastest!). Maybe it is my age group coupled with the memories of the car in its heyday, but I think I will always have to have a C4 ZR-1, because that is the car that does it for me.

You have answered the original question well.

I always threaten my kids that I want to be buried in my ZR-1. Love that car!

Black Rose w Cognac here Mary preceded by Aqua/Gray.
Classic color combination, not flashy but imposing. It looks serious. I have typically gotten tired of my cars over time. Not the ZR. It rewards me every time I drive it altho there is an occasional hiccup. A 27 year old car that remains relevant today.
Just the other day, Pete and I were at his favorite Greek fast food place. A younger Asian man coming into the restaurant. He did a double take when he saw the ZR-1 tags on the hood. He came in and ordered then noticed that Pete was wearing a jacket w ZR-1 near the shoulder. He approached and asked if it was Pete's Corvette but Pete responded that it was mine. We talked a bit and then I invited him to come take a closer look. He had already taken a few pics of it.
I opened the hood to give him a thrill, and he was in awe of the motor having never seen a ZR-1 before. He thought the plenum was amazing. I went one step further, and started the motor. He stood behind it taking in and recording the exhaust note on his phone. BTW, I opened both outlets for him.
Very cool to have a younger person appreciate the ZR. As someone once told me, the C4 ZRs are the unicorns of the Corvette world.

I own a Metallic Turquoise 91 ZR-1 and I also check Ebay and the Internet "Daily" to try to find another Turquoise Z. Other than the Steel Blue car that was recently purchased not many rare colors seem to surface, and certainly not Turquoise. Women always seem to love that color, guys give it mixed reviews.

If I can find a comparable car I like as much I plan on buying it and getting my car back to the son of a previous owner. With only ninety something possible 91 turquoise cars to choose from I might have to wait a while for another to come up for sale.

Within the past year, I've seen one '91 Turquoise ZR-1 listed on a popular auction site and two were sold on BAT, but it is true that you don't see them listed very often.

I have a '90 Turquoise ZR-1 (1 of 16) that may be listed for sale next summer.

Cheers,
Scott
