this is why the original owner started pulling the motor....fear over cam failure:

Although appears these were not having issues....

Lee,
I had good results with removing mine from the car then letting it set for couple hours filled with brake cleaner. Sloshed around good before draining then repeated. For final flush hooked it up to the solvent tank pump outlet with new solvent let it run until the return was clear. Then blew it out with the shop air hose. I was surprised at the amount of effort it took for just having 20k miles of use and frequent oil changes.

Lee, asking to have a understanding, did the cam fail or was it a lifter failure?

Thanks Bill

This car did not have a failure...the cams and lifters look good. The prior owner took the motor apart as a preventative measure and did not have time to finish the car.

As far as what I have heard about the Jeal cams....some say the Rockwell is too low in comparison to the lifter. In speaking to Mr Jeal he contends those with failures had poor oil pressure.

Others run these cams with no issues(Including Corey Henderson). Some have had failures.

Either way..I am going the safe route and replacing them

My leak down tester was not working, so no numbers...but did pressurize the cylinders to see what I had. 1,2,3,5,6,7,8 no leakage at the valve, can hear some hissing past the rings, but this motor has sat for years so probably some abnormally dry liners.....

Cylinder 4 had some leakage past both intake valves....however with some brake clean sprayed in it and some pressure on the valves....it improved.....so thinking they are just alittle gunked up. Will soak they overnight to see how they do...they are holding fluid.

Once I get a new tester will post some #s....

Hello Lee,
I have used this milkstone acid on all of my old Corvettes. Let part soak for a couple od days, and wipe or squirt it off.you can buy it at TSC or True Value. I buy 5 gal at at time, i think it cost about $50
