I could be wrong, but any GM shop can diagnose a C4 AC issue. Mine was diagnosed and fixed while I waited.

If you still have R12 refrigerant you will have issues obtaining more freon. Many shops are going to want to convert it to R134. Not a bad idea but can be expensive. If you have a digital meat thermometer or something similar put it in the center vent and see what the temp is after it has been running for a while with the AC on MAX. If the temp is in the 40s you are OK, low 50s and up you may need some work.

The average repair bill to retrofit when other A/C repairs are needed, according to the Mobile Air Conditioning Society (MACS), is about $100 over and above any other repairs that may be needed (such as replacing the compressor, condenser or evaporator, etc.). The cost to retrofit usually does not add that much to the total repair bill because converting 1990s vintage vehicles to R-134a in most cases is fairly easy and does not require many (if any) changes.

The diagnostic mode give code 09 for low freon. Mine still has R-12 so will have to be converted. I will call DMS Corvette on Monday and see if they can give me an idea of what it would cost.

I did get new Nitto tires installed today. Found a industrial street near my office and burned some rubber off of the old tires. It was great fun doing burnouts. It has been awhile.

I also have a black on black 1990 # 2441 owned since 2012. Although I don’t race, it is just a smooth enjoyable historic car to drive. Driven from 60,000 in 2012 when I purchased to 80,000 currently. Zero repairs excluding trip to Marc Heibeck in 2014 for minor tweeking and injectors. It is still my favorite of my four super cars listed below😊😊

My AC was converted to R-34 in 2012 and has worked perfectly since. Might want to consider that.

Took my car to DMS Corvette in Garland to have the AC looked at. They are just a few miles from my office so very convenient. Turned out the leak was in the condenser. New condenser installed and refrigerant converted to R134a so hopefully I am good to go for the summer. Plan on attending the South Texas BBQ so should get the test it out then.
