Luke chapter 10 verse 30:

30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.

There is a difference between compassion and welfare.

Amen brother, and that's where the Dem's have taken it too far. "Bleeding Hearts" as my Dad used to call them. On the other hand, there's the Rep's, who also have taken the original GOP philosophy too far in that when you talk of giving multi phuckin billion dollar a year companies tax breaks you have lost touch with reality.

Speaking of reality, how can someone making $170k a year, wined and dined by lobbyists, be in touch with middle class America?

And while I'm on a roll, I wish John Kerry...who is worth $336,000,000...would buy my Z. He's in touch too, yeah right.

Money bought Obama this election, nothing else, cause he ain't changin' s***.

Done

Saddest day in American history? I think that might be overstating it just a tad...

I think the problem comes when 51% of people realize they can take stuff away from the 49%. The bill of rights should protect you, but when the judicial system is more interested in straining their intellect to reinterpret laws in crazy new ways, that doesn't happen.

I also think the problem is it is accepted that the gov't can take your income. When the 16th amendment went into effect in 1913, the highest tax rate was 7%. Perhaps at the time that seemed "ok". But it opened the door for rates that climbed as high as 90%+. You have no protection. There is nothing that states how much of your income you have a "right" to keep. Now income redistribution is the next step. Though even Bush did that with tax "relief" and rebates, that go disproportionatly to people who paid little in tax in the first place.

Hell, Obama even had a website up where you could punch in your income, and it would compute how much more money he'd give you back than McCain would. How is that different than saying "I'll give you $100 to vote for me"? How can that possibly be legal or acceptable?

Really, how do you fix all that crap? It's not by electing McCain anymore than it is by electing Obama... It sucks all around, and I'd just be happy to vote for someone who won't make it worse. Voting for someone who'd work to fix it seems like a pipe-dream.

Hopefully individuals make that call for themselves, and make the call about their own money, time, effort, etc. I don't recall any part of the Bible where God suggested forcing people to be charitable.

If you want to be compassionate, go for it. I don't recall any candidates running on a platform of outlawing individual acts of compassion or charity.
