Re: England, Lotus and LT5
Good eye...correct, but actually the P51 was behind them giving chase...they did 'dog fights' etc...very cool sight!

Re: England, Lotus and LT5
The Initail "A" model P51s were powered by the V12 1710 Allison engine which had an inadequate mechanical driven supercharger. With this engine the plane's performance was acceptable up to 15,000 ft. however, at higher altitudes it proved to be way under powered compared to the other top fighters of the time. To correct this deficiency it was the Brits who pulled the Allison and put in its place a V12 1650 Roll-Royce Merlin engine from the Spitfire which had a much more efficient two-stage, two speed centrifugal supercharger which was better suited for higher altitude operation and with this engine the P51 became a legend. The 1650 Merlin engine was put into production with the "B" model Mustangs onward. Subsequently the Rolls-Royce Merlin engine was built in the United States under licence by Packard who made a number of improvements to the engine design.

That would be an awesome event to see! I just can't imagine wrecking one of those priceless cars! I wonder what that Mercedes guy was thinking when his car went out of control... "Oops, there goes $5 million!"

Nice pictures! Looks like a blast, and yeah the Lotus connection is pretty cool. Also, JagdP's info on the Mustang is pretty cool too!

Re: England, Lotus and LT5
I go to Goodwood many times throughout the year. Its a good trip by car and by plane. However I have never managed to go to this event!!!!!! It always falls on day where I am working or away
If anyone is thinking of going, I know a very good hotel a few minutes away so just shout I would love to take the Z around the track however that will never happen due to the moaners that live around the area. Goodwood has a strict db limit on the cars and a strict noise abatment for aircraft. Lets hope they don't manage to ruin this great event as well

Sadly its just a matter of time. There are way too many moaners vs. Car lovers. Great thread!

Some noise restrictions on motorcycle track days are so strict that some stock road legal bikes are too loud. The track at Donnington (moto gp track) has strict db levels and yet East Midlands airport is next door with airliners taking off all day wtf?? better not get me started on this tin pot country......

Re: England, Lotus and LT5
The Db restriction is hitting many tracks...and it usually the whiners/complainers that buy near the track and then started at it...yep...track was there before many move to area. Go figure. I would LOVE to drive my ZR-1 at Goodwood or Donnington and could do so due to exhaust being original and very subdued.. now my Lingenfelter C6.. now THAT would be a hoot at either track but is a weeeeee over Db restrictions

I'm dying to go to Goodwood. I've been to the Monterey Historic races a few times and it is mind boggling. Great shots Michael, thanks.
