Neat on the hood. How much does the stock one weigh?

I always kind of wondered how much weight could be saved with different body panels. It's too bad some of that stuff wasn't feasible when the Z came out. Imagine it with an aluminum chassis and CF body panels.

Would the plenum just be to save weight? I still think it's interesting that there are basically no alternative intakes for the LT5. I don't know if that's a compliment on the original design, or a result of the small market for LT5 stuff.

Small market, and the cost to duplicate is pretty high. Sheet metal intakes are roughly around 2,500 and up. if you remember kirchoffer had the sheetmetal intake that was a one off design. It's to costly to make, and plus the story is the power to be had wasn't any better than a full boogie regular intake. So the only car you will see that on is Billy K's.

The nose cap could lose a little weight going to CF. The rear bumper would almost be nothing as it is already pretty light. Same with the doors, they are light once all the guts are out.

The big pieces would be the hood and then the rear deck. That's where all the weight is in the body of a C4.

Then you start working on the motor:
Injector housings are 7lbs each (after porting)
Plenum is 18lbs after porting

These three pieces alone are 32 lbs. Compare that to a 4 lb intake manifold for a C5/6 car.

If you can mold carbon fiber how about the bumber moldings (91-95)probably get more interest in those pieces.

Besides all the common weight savings, there is some weight savings if we had titanium screws for valve covers,IH's,plenum, vent cover,WP,PS,A/C,ALT,oil pan, etc.

Jeff ,
i agree with you that Hood and bumper are most important!
but i have callaway arebody, so i dont want change that to CF.
but for 1990 Zr1 folks , i will mold it for who want it!
intake ,horn,..stuff for LT5 is an opition, it will look cool, and little bit lighter.i know!who got more money he pay

i dont like sheet M. stuff
before 6 months, i long talk with engineer in Kinsler Fuel injection, i could and was ready to let KFI fabricat both IH and intake, and do it as here in that picture.

but the power gain would be not so much, and cost of molding and fabricating stuff are VERY HIGH!!
cuz the LT5 manifold Design itself is super and powerful, so i let it!

and for those who like to supercharge or turbo the lt5 like me ,would be harder with KFI kit.
but the Lt5 Cabon-Fiber manifold will not be costly as KFI!

BTW , the front callaway bumper is 50% lighter than orignal C4 !!!
so with front CF bumper will be intersting!
did you hold the c4 front bumper and feel how heavy is it?

JEFF do you know how much the hood weight? please.

if i have the 91-95 bumper, i WILL do it CF for you. No problem.

Price would be $ 1800 for hood. with or without pair of ducts. P.S. (this price will be for first the 3 customers who will order it from me. the other will be $ 1950) .

the front 90 zr1 bumper = $ 1500
the rear 90 Zr1 bumper = $ 1600
i promise you guys, price could stay same or be lower, and Never going to be higher as i posted here!
-----------------
Price for the intake, valve cover,horn,... for LT5? , I let you know the price when these parts goes into program!

The Carbon fiber is a Quality stuff not that its just lighter.
thats why NASA space shuttle used it....
see how the the CF work as thermal barriers in rocket element.

5500 °F oxyacetylene burn test. Time for burn through, 6.5 min!!

Might be interested but would need to see fit and finish. Would rather pay $150 extra and know what I'm getting than lay out $1800 for something I might not be satisfied with.

No disrespect intended.
