Odds are he was not paying attention and following too close.
I drive on I-55 on a regular basis and that is one bad expressway!!! You gotta look two plus cars in traffic, especially at a decent rate of speed. Good thing is the car looks repairable. Last edited by Karl; 02-12-2020 at 07:24 PM. |

Everything needed to fix it is standard C4 stuff. Still probably going to cost $3~4000 with used parts (my WAG & I ain't no body man)

The A piller doesn’t looked like it got touched but the bumper peshed down is something to look into, might have just pushed it down on the mounts. That car is #638,mine is #634.

Of course anything is fixable. Having a recent fender bender about a year ago, I learned a lot about the process and what was involved. My Corvette specialty shop was very transparent and involved me in the repair. Mine was no where near as bad and the bill was 13K of which 11.5 was in man hours. My experience was:
1) All parts (except front bumper valence) are NOS available as standard C4 2) Frame pulling (mine required a 1/8 inch move) can me done accurately 3) doing it "right" (mine was) requires disassembly, inspection, replace/refurbish...etc of everything forward of the cowl. 4) Insurance companies will severely under value parts replacement, parts choice and use a fraction of the hours. This car is repairable providing the A pillar is not bent to hell, but insurance will total it and do you really want a "salvage title" ZR1 in your driveway?

Possibly, or many times when the car in front is braking hard, its nose will drop and the rear end come up enabling the rear car to slide under. Especially if the rearcar is wedge shaped. Either way, it saved the Z from significantly more damage. As others have said, very easy fix, and all the parts seem to be C4 generic. Whether or not it is going to be fixed is not so certain since the owner relinquished it, and it carries a salvage title.

For perspective, here is the "fender bender", what was required for the resurrection and the final. The car came out really very well. What I learned is that the front is just designed to "hang" and absorb an impact so even a small "smoosh" and the reverberation will damage braces, brackets, mounts...etc.
