Lou
Lou the clock spring refers to the air bag arming mechanism not the horn contacts. GC

Mine is doing the same thing. My son was the one who pointed out to me that the horns were not working. I asked the previous owner and he said he never tried the horn so he didn't know. I took a horn out and used two wires to test it and it worked. Then I remembered I could have just set the alarm to test if the security system and horns worked. Which I did and yes both the horns and security system was operating correctly. So I guess it's time to break out the service manual and remove the cover. Don't like messing with columns that have air bags.

It was a little “springy thing” with a short wire on it, goes into a hole in the middle of the assembly. Gets loose and can fall out.
Marty: there’s springs in there but they push the rods in not out, shutting the whole works down (hopefully)...

And, that same spring operated the water level sensor @ 3-mile Island, huh?

But, back to horns...

"Inattention to detail" will get ya every time...
Same with a ZR-1, speaking of water levels, how many coolant overflow
tanks do ya see empty?

I just had my Z serviced by Haibeck. My horn didn't work, so I asked him to look at it while he had the car. Mark replaced the "Horn Rotary Contactor". He said that it was a very common failure in our cars.
