the pilot bearing can be a squealin beeotch sometimes that then goes away

take a mechanics stethoscope and a buddy and you'll find where the noise is coming from

Um, could be. But, unless I missed it, has a slipping belt been eliminated yet?

To do that, spritz the grooved side of the belt with a little Windex, or just plain water (even). If the squealing quits or the sound quiets down, it might be the belt. And, if the belt shows any signs of "checking" (the rubber ribs cracking all along the entire (inside) length of the belt), it is time to replace it.

Belts by GATES seem to be quality items - last 5 years or more (15-20k miles...something like that).

Hello all,

Sorry for the late replies guys. I was sick last week and work a lot of hours in addition to having a 3 month and 4 year old.

The squeal is still there even with a fully charged battery. I haven't done any more investigation than that but I plan on getting to it this week.

In addition to the squeal I believe I have a bad vacuum leak as I can't get the car to idle lower than 1500rpms.

I have a smoker for leak detection but my compressor is down right now so I will be taking it to my Dads house down the road to diagnose both issues.

I'd be happy to just get all the bugs worked out so I can drive it for a bit before selling it.

Thanks all,

Tony
