Same here, I even thought about doing the auction circuit. One thing everyone is leaving off is the commission to BJ. If I remember correctly it's 8% from the seller and 10% from the buyer. They may have lowered the seller piece for a no reserve, but whoever bought it actually paid $20,350.

18,500 which includes the buyers 10% commission......So the hammer price was around 16,800.....

There was a real nice red 90 when I was there ...It was part of a collection...Hammer price was 15,000

Very true...Most cars look good in photos, especially the darker colored ones....That red 90 was super clean and was part of a collection.....Did not know the mileage though.....

I see this on here a lot.

I think it might be time to just accept that they just aren't going to see huge numbers...at least not for awhile.

I don't know why he would think that, it hasn't happened at auction with one of these yet.

Nope, sold. For exactly what the market there would bear. All three of them were low because that's where the market is at.

The chances that all three were pieces of sh*t is pretty low. Plus none were bought by phone bidders, so the buyers could have looked at every one.

They can't sell poorly. They sold for exactly what the crowd they were advertised to was willing to pay. And the fact that the sellers were willing to sell at a no reserve auction says they were willing to let them go for what the market was willing to pay. These have sold low at auctions, so the sellers can't be super surprised.

Certainly not now, maybe never. These are complex cars. As time passes and their collectability goes up, the cost and difficulty of maintenance (both perceived and real) does as well. Those numbers may end up canceling out, relegating them to just go up in price close to the rate of inflation.

Ha Ha! Isn't that the case! My current plan is that when I die I will just have written my last check, which will bounce. No worries about car appreciation --Bob

Reminds me of the Jack Handey quote: I hope that when I die, people say about me, 'Boy, that guy sure owed me a lot of money.'
