Re: Why isn't the Registry open to all Z?
As I see it...
The FORUM would easily accommodate other ZR's; a la the CF for only ONE example. Perhaps including other "ZR(one) owners and enthusiasts isn't such a big leap?? The By-Laws state: As for "the powers that be", that isn't the BOD. The "powers that be" is the MEMBERS. Pros vs. Cons... Lots to consider - far as expansion goes. Reaping the benefits without loosing anything we (the Registry) has got...is the trick, IMO.

Re: Why isn't the Registry open to all Z?
As mentioned in a similar discussion, pressing "Today's posts" on Corvetteforum doesn't do you much good if you're looking for LT5 or even C4 related posts. This forum currently sees 20-50 posts a day (Probably a poor estimate), but they are all relevant to car that is the common denominator of the members of the forum, thus leaving you with the possibility to look through all new posts.
Adding all other generations of ZR-1 would probably result in 10 - 100 times more traffic, reducing posts relevant to the current users from 100%, to 1-10%, which in turn will cause people to stop using functions like "Today's posts", and only browse certain parts, further reducing activity in the LT5 related threads. This can of course be solved by completely separating the different generations. Multiple forums under one roof. Though I have not pondered too much of what could be gained of such a setup. Note: This is only my personal opinion. As a new member it's also hard to understand the purpose of the Registry (If one removes the forum from the equation), but having read almost the whole Z-registry correspondence between 1995 and 2007 (still reading), I am very much aware of it's initial purpose.

Re: Why isn't the Registry open to all Z?
If it was open to all gens , I'd continue to browse (like I do at CF) but I doubt I'd keep paying money each year for a membership. I value the mission, purpose, and focus of the current site. Just my .02 cents.

Re: Why isn't the Registry open to all Z?
I stand by my earlier posts, both in this thread and the members only thread, which was supportive of adding the newer generations.
I will add that if you look at the number of users each time you come on board, you might be troubled, as I am, by the small numbers of active users at any given time. Adding new gen sections would vastly improve that traffic, and surely there would be cross-pollination of the different generations. More traffic in no way is a bad thing. Added generations in separate sections, in no meaningful way, destroys or diminishes the value of the C-4 ZR-1 Registry. You lose (or gain) nothing unless you click on that section. Don't like new gen? Don't go there. Simple. One last thought. New(er) Gen could become bigger than us, and if separate, they might add a C-4 gen section. Why help that happen? We don't stay King of the Hill by Divine Right. By now, enough commentary has been brought forth. Time seems right for a decision. Marty |

Re: Why isn't the Registry open to all Z?
Why do u assume that would ever change? I don't understand this concern. If u read the by-laws you will note that a"anyone can join this Registry. It does not require owning a C4 ZR-1. This forum and Registry could be "overrun" TODAY. Hasn't happened. There were 6900+ C4 ZRs built and only 4300 C6 ZRs.

Re: Why isn't the Registry open to all Z?
I will add this tidbit of info from experience. I had a Nova before the Z. I was a longtime member and moderator on the #1 Nova Forum site on the net. There are of course 4 generations of Chevy Novas. The site had separate forums for each generation - as well as all the other common forum headings (General, Wheels & Tires, Drag Racing, Engine Discussion, Etc Etc)
However what happened in many cases is that a thread would get started and commented on - only to figure out ten posts down that the answers didn't pertain to the generation of car the OP was posting about - either because they didn't specify, or had no car info on their visible profile for reference. So basically 10 people either gave wrong info, or had to ask the OP what year car he had. I can see this happening here - no matter how many sticky's and rules you post to "keep your posts in the right topic" - some people just ain't gonna get it. SO - while I am not completely opposed to allowing others in - I would also like to caution you of the extra moderation required, and that it will cause "dilution" of some of the posts. Some C6 guy is gonna come on and play "knowitall" and post on every C4 post. Or vice versa. Seen it happen. We banned some guys that came on and would argue to the death which generation was better, etc. This site is pretty calm for the most part - which is how it should be. We can pretty much get pertinent info within a couple days on about any problem we experience without having to root through all the garbage posts. And that is a GOOD thing... Just my 2 cents on the subject

Re: Why isn't the Registry open to all Z?
As far as the idea of interest diminishing in this site if there were other pages,I don't see that. My BOOKMARKS are the ZR-1 sites first then other Corvette sites second, thats how I look at them. As far as the header at the top of the page should things change, the C4 ZR-1 should always be center stage flanked by the other gens. If somebody has a specific interest in a specific Gen that's where they are going to look and then once they find what they need they will browse the other GEN out of curiosity to see what's there.

Re: Why isn't the Registry open to all Z?
To reiterate, the by-laws don't require any member to be an owner of a C4 ZR-1. So the issue of "dilution" is difficult to understand. I have been on CF for 15 years. My interaction w those who may own or are enthusiasts of ANY Corvette has typically been a positive one. And I get to tell them how great a C4 ZR is.
And as a C4 ZR owner of 10 years, I am excited as hell to hear that GM is planning on bringing out a successor to our KOTH. And that they honor that legacy by powering it with a successor to the original LT5. If that's not deserving of brotherhood, I am not sure what is.

Re: Why isn't the Registry open to all Z?
Separate generation forums under this roof wouldn't be the worst thing. It would help our numbers at Carlisle
